Former #3 Scott Gumbletron

EFC stuck by Gumby through his injuries when other teams would have cut him loose and then he stuck by EFC when he was offered a bigger contract elsewhere.  If ever a man deserves some good fortune it is Gumby.

I was really hoping we'd keep him.

When it became obvious Crameri left, I hoped we'd give him more time.

But with JD coming through, and Ryder, Belly, Hurley, etc etc, the best move for Gumby is to go where he'll get opportunity.

He should have been played more this year. I was annoyed that he wasn't.

All the best Gumby.

Gumbleton… Our Rusling.

Please don’t kick 6 against us. I won’t take it well.

Could be the link they need to win the premiership! Good luck to him.

I really wanted him to stay, but I can understand his decision.

When Daniher walked in the door, it was always going to be difficult for Gumbleton. Fitting Daniher, Gumbleton and a resting ruck into the one forward line was never going to practical. My preference was to trade Ryder or Belly for a top five pick or someone like Dylan Shiel, and use Gumbleton and Daniher as the relief ruckman.

Even though Crameri left, Scott had to go. Like you I think JD changed the landscape for him. He's the new and improved and unbroken Gumby that comes with bells and whistles. I don't think he trading Ryder/Bellchambers would have been right however as the probability of a good return from Ryder v Bellchambers v Gumby has Gumby last for me. On history it's still unlikely he will give a return (hence the one year contract offered by Freo - who were desperate for a tall forward!), and highly unlikely he would've given us a return with our list being rich in talls.

It would be awesome to see him play in a premiership with Freo (although not at our expense). I wish him all the best.

With Chapman, we're topping up for a premiership right now. ANYONE else winning a premiership is 'at our expense'.

So long and thanks for all the fish.

I will never, ever, understand these sorts of statements. This really is the silly season isn't it?!

Why anyone would consder trading either of these two is beyond me. They are both required players, best 22.

They are both moving into their prime years: it was clear this season that Thomas Bellchambers has taken the next step as a ruckman-forward, and Ryder has improved his output year-on-year.

Anyone with two working eyes and ears knows that talls take their time to mature - so why would you give away all those years of preparation to some other club, and basically give them a leg up to a premiership window. WE, Essendon, need them on OUR list to be a premiership contender.

Bellchambers has got to be one the best-value PSD picks in that particular draft's history - why would we give up the added advantage we gained with that pick? (especially as some of our first-round national draft picks have turned out to be far less valuable).

Plus, there are very few decent rucks around at the moment. This is clearly evidenced by the fact that Jolly is being seriously talked about for a 4th club; Jesse White is talked up as having part-time ruck potential etc etc.

Why would we do it? A ■■■■■■ ludicrous suggestion, frankly.

Why? Because structurally I think teams are better off with one specialist ruckman, and one or two forwards who can pinch hit. And having an elite player like Shiel or whoever is available at the top of the draft would be ■■■■■■ handy. How many games can you name when both Ryder and Bellchambers have fired?

Reasonable points

hahahaha

very sad to see gumby go! has been my favourite player since he joined the club!

best of luck to him i hope he can extend his career!

Please don't kick 6 against us. I won't take it well.

Highly unlikely given he's never bagged six in the VFL.  Then again, Lynch from Adelaide snagged a bag of 10 so I suppose anything is possible

Club and player both deserve credit for persisting this long. Always wanted to see Gumby succeed so hope for his sake he's able to stay injury free and play some reasonable footy at Freo (except against us, obviously).

Freo has a kill switch on his contract if he gets re injured. Everyone knows he is a chance of not seeing out the season.

2010 was the closest we got to seeing his potential. 17 games and 19 goals and a pivotal target.

My kid wore his jumper from the day he was drafted. He was out big hope.

Even though I loved Wanganeen, Solomon, Hardwick etc etc I never cared once they left.

But for Gumby i do. I hope he sees finals. I hope he plays in the Grand Final against us, kicks a bag and wins the Norm Smith.

But we win the flag. Chappy gives him the number 3 back and they all party together into the night.

I would have done the same. Shiel would have topped off our midfield. I am yet to be convinced that Gumby and T-bell will ever work as a team.

Well it won't happen now that's for sure

Geee it must be tough having your favourite play 35 games and miss 120 or so games.

Could be a bargain trade for Freo. Who are Freo’s tall forwards other than Pavlich? Bradley? You would think he will be best 22 for them and will be given every chance to establish himself as a quality player.
