Former #32 Travis Colyer

I like that these sods are putting out something positive for once but it’s a bit of a nothing article all the same.

Agree and there has been several positive articles in the Age recently. It sounds like the AFL has given approval for positive Essendon communications.

Still got the lie in the second sentence, though.

Coyler is almost the most important of the guys the club neeeds and has to hope wants to re commit.

As you say, the above players would be an elite midfield within 2 years I reckon. throw in heppell and another grunt player and that’s almost your starting midfield for the next 5 plus years minimum.
That would set the club up wonderfully for some onfield success IMO.

"Colyer’s withering start to 2015 saw the line-breaking midfielder thrill with his pace and nose for goal before suffering a hot spot in his navicular bone."

Withering?

Jacob Withering. These communications specialists just have to get his name in there don’t they!

Loving the positive feel out of the club at the moment

Colyer has one more season on his current deal but like all of Essendon’s banned 12 players has the ability to leave the club this year.

WTF? When was that announced? I know there’s been talk that player managers could force our hand (like Ryder) but I don’t remember anything saying contracts officially mean nothing. Is this yet another piece of media BS or have players been told they are effectively all free agents?

Why do we believe this but not the Hooker to Freo/Hawthorn stories?

It’s actually not true. Wish it was.

I believe the Hooker stories to some degree, but they’re also incredibly obvious. High quality tall defender free agent might be lured to successful club lacking tall defenders is hardly a stretch. On the other hand, you’d have to be going full communications specialist to just make up “player not particularly well known outside of Essendon to sign long term contract extension” without basing it on something.

That isn’t what the story actually says though so lets not get ahead of ourselves

True, it’s more nebulous than that. At this stage though, even “open to” is good news to me.

Why do we believe this but not the Hooker to Freo/Hawthorn stories?

Exactly right. Grain of salt.
There are no quotes from anyone whatsoever regarding Colyer. Ralphy was closing in on deadline and went for the trusty ‘banned don contract status’ article.

Yep every article should be taken with some form of skepticism, when they are both good and bad articles.

however this article does go against the grain, would have been much easier to say coyler is out the door, if all you were worried about was click bait etc.

it is what it is, we are gonna cop ahell of alot more articles claiming player x is leaving, might as well enjoy the ones that say player x isn’t leaving as well.

pretty sure xavier said that if a banned player wanted to leave the club he wouldnt stop them. Also pretty sure woosh has endorsed these sentiments in the media

He saw Parish kick that goal and said, ‘freak this I want IN’
