I’m pretty sure we were going to draft Luke Ryan that year before Freo swooped in. Guess we never really knew how good he would actually become otherwise we would have pounced earlier.
Maybe in 2025-26, but Heppell’s form is exceptional and he brings huge leadership presence. Mass wouldn’t be pushing Hep out right now, fairly or unfairly as it would be.
He gets his share of disposals and butchers his share, but he is exceptional ? Martin gets more disposals, actually does more with the ball, doesn’t leak as many goals, yet he is getting bagged.
And seriously Heppell is a very nice chap, but where was this “huge leadership presence” when he was Captain.
Massimo is playing Wing exclusively from what ive watched of Hawthorn.
Playing well.
With our Wingers OUT, he would definitely be getting games.
I think the move was the right decision for him.
He is playing every week, whereas for us he’d be on the periphery.
If he could gain a little more leg drive/power in his legs, he would open up opportunities to really hurt the opposition.
In time he might get there.
Hawks would be wrapt with his output nonetheless.
A more accurate stat would be metres gained per turnover. Martin certainly goes for a lot higher risk reward with his kicks while Hepp definitely takes the safe option. Personally I’m happy with how both are playing to their strengths.
We lost Mass but I don’t think he’s an overall huge loss in the scheme of things.
Heppell has been good to okay, but so has mass. Its probably pretty easy to argue mass has had a better year
Anyway, take away that situation, it was just a fkn dumb call to not offer him a 2 year deal on okay money. He took the hawks deal, on better coin and a extra year and good on him.
Sometimes you get it right, but i firmly believe we got this one wrong. He can play
