Former #42 Massimo D'Ambrosio

I’m pretty sure we were going to draft Luke Ryan that year before Freo swooped in. Guess we never really knew how good he would actually become otherwise we would have pounced earlier.

My memory of the situation was that we cut him from our VFL squad because he was a naughty boy

Maybe in 2025-26, but Heppell’s form is exceptional and he brings huge leadership presence. Mass wouldn’t be pushing Hep out right now, fairly or unfairly as it would be.

He gets his share of disposals and butchers his share, but he is exceptional ? Martin gets more disposals, actually does more with the ball, doesn’t leak as many goals, yet he is getting bagged.

And seriously Heppell is a very nice chap, but where was this “huge leadership presence” when he was Captain.

Massimo is playing Wing exclusively from what ive watched of Hawthorn.

Playing well.
With our Wingers OUT, he would definitely be getting games.

I think the move was the right decision for him.
He is playing every week, whereas for us he’d be on the periphery.

If he could gain a little more leg drive/power in his legs, he would open up opportunities to really hurt the opposition.
In time he might get there.
Hawks would be wrapt with his output nonetheless.

Helps form was exceptional in the first five or so rounds. He’s been average at best since

Heppell kicks at 84% vs Martin’s 65%, and averages 2.7 turnovers a game vs Martin’s 5.7

But yeah I dunno the vibe I guess?

what part about all about that MASS dont you peanuts understand?

Martin has at least a third more possessions each game, so total turnovers isn’t really fair

Mass times the speed of light squared is pure energy

Martin YTD 11 games 337 disposals

Heppell YTD 11 games 231 disposals

What does total disposals have to do with your point?

Martin averages 5.4 disposals per turnover vs Heppell’s 7.7

He is statistically more of a butcher despite being obviously a far better player

We all like good Helps

How much of Martin’s is contested possession. Martin is never under pressure. He should be more accurate

Mass in for Heppell??

FMD pass the metho.

A more accurate stat would be metres gained per turnover. Martin certainly goes for a lot higher risk reward with his kicks while Hepp definitely takes the safe option. Personally I’m happy with how both are playing to their strengths.

We lost Mass but I don’t think he’s an overall huge loss in the scheme of things.

Cut a bit deep when my hawks mate that generally doesn’t rate many of his own players, messaged me on Sunday night saying he really rates Massimo.

Heppell has been good to okay, but so has mass. Its probably pretty easy to argue mass has had a better year

Anyway, take away that situation, it was just a fkn dumb call to not offer him a 2 year deal on okay money. He took the hawks deal, on better coin and a extra year and good on him.

Sometimes you get it right, but i firmly believe we got this one wrong. He can play

It isn’t about who has had a better year, it is about the role they play.

We wouldn’t be dropping a 190cm defender/wing for a 180cm defender/wing, particularly given our issues while Ridley and Reid have been out.

Completely removes all flexibility. If Mass was to play ahead of anyone based on role it would be McGrath, and I don’t think that would be happening.

But, yes we should have come to the party on that contract.

Mass is looking really decent. Mistake to let him go 100%
