Four Vic Police killed by a truck on the Eastern Freeway

What video? Sounds like a real piece of work

I’m still very very interested as to why the truck driver was in the service lane. There are pretty strict rules about how long you can drive in a service lane and under what circumstances (as well as speeds in those lanes).

Yes, applies to emergency lanes and shoulders

Where you a police person

That rule is interesting. Despite its importance I actually think it is relatively unknown compared to other road rules (which is terrible as it’s amongst the most important)

I suppose if he didn’t break the law he wouldn’t have been parked in the emergency lane and a truck wouldn’t have killed 4 cops so yea, I’d call it a contribution.

The only time photos of absolute tragedy can kind of be excusable is when media or someone are reporting atrocities, and documenting them serves a greater purpose in highlighting this to the outside world. Even then they are highly controversial.

There is absolutely no excuse for him taking photos in this situation. If this is what society has come to, then it is even more fcked than I thought.

Finally, I cannot stand trucks and driving near them. Also get abit on edge. Also some truck drivers are really reckless, and simply do not understand the laws of physics as they tailgate cars.

Yeah I agree with all of that. The only thing I was saying is that sometimes people in shock do stupid things. That’s all. But based on the guy’s history it sounds like he is just a sociopath so maybe we shouldn’t be giving him the benefit of the doubt in any way

What are the rules for that when there is multiple lanes like on the Eastern? Is every lane supposed to slow to 40km? I don’t recall it being explained in any detail.

NSW trialled a slow to 40 rule last year and after evaluation and a fair amount of negative feedback it was amended in regard to high speed roads (90+), where drivers must now ā€˜slow down safely to a speed that is reasonable for the circumstances’.

Yep. Real piece of work.

Also noticed in Germany last year that trucks only use the extreme right lane on most major highways. They’re banked up for kilometres.

There’s a video that he took and shared that’s circulating. It was put in my lads chat messenger group but I refuse to watch it but the guys in my group who have watched it said this is what he said.

Lack of public awareness has been an issue in a couple of states, not sure about Vic. Generally it applies to all lanes travelling in same direction on divided roads, and both directions if undivided. Another issue is that the requirements vary across the 4 states that have such a rule (e.g. SA is slow to 25).

Like I and so so many others have, and will be in the future.

7 k’s over I was, & I was shittin’ myself with the traffic & Trucks, … but you know, … quotas.

…and likely never been 7ks over since.

wut?

You know, since shittin yourself in the emergency lane for being 7ks over, you haven’t been pulled over since. Surely?

Wow, movable Goal posts!! . Good chat.

Yep that’s right. Traffic law is all just about quotas and revenue raising. Right?

If you’re over then you’re over, and you deserve to be pulled up and fined.

I’ve had one speeding fine in my life. I was doing 73 in a tunnel where the speed limit was 60 (but it’s a variable speed limit, it is usually 80 and I didn’t notice). I still deserved to be fined
