Good call by me / Bad call by me

Discussing bets on first goal kicker last night and deciding there is no way it could be hardingham, especially if he marks it = bad call.

Losing it when Zantuck and Richard Cole were recruited = good call.

Good Call

-Myers is better than Cyril!

-Crameri is lazy

-First one on the Ambrose bandwagon

-Melksham supporter

Bad Call

-Any comment to do with Dayle Garlett

-Hardingham is a liability

-Hooker is a liability

-Fletcher is too old. (2009)

-Marcus Marigliani is a gun!

Good Call

Jumping on Matthew Lloyd as my favourite player in 1996. Everyone in the schoolyard said "Who?"

Having faith that Myers would come good

Having faith Jobe would come good. (Obviously not THIS good but who could have picked that?)

Wiping my tears, gritting my teeth and saying the competition won't know what hit them next season straight after the 1999 Prelim. If I was old enough I would of put all my money on us then and there to win the 2000 flag

Bad Call

Thinking Hooker would only be purely negative "stopper". He's so much more than that now

Thinking Pears was far superior to Hooker

Mid last year I was ready to judge Melksham a bust.

Thought Mercuri's 5 year contract was brilliant

Cockily making a bet with my mates in 2006 that Essendon would win a Premiership before their teams: Geelong & Hawthorn

Good Calls:

- Deciding to support Essendon in 1992 when 9 years old in order to impress a cute essendon supporting girl in my class.

- Moving to Washington DC for six months in September 1999 and missing the finals series.

Bad Calls:

- Electing not to go to the Anzac Day game 2009 because it might rain and I thought we'd get thumped.

- Staying home from round 22 vs Carlton 2013 because I couldn't bare the pain of a foreshadowed thumping

- Exclaiming that Tony Lockett's kick wouldn't make the distance in 1996.

- Believing The Age was a reputable newspaper with journalistic ethics.

Good Call:

Dean Rioli will play a 100 games (barely got that right!)

If Jobe Watson ever got fit he would be just about unstoppable

Hooker should never have been even considered for trade

Leroy Jetta has the skills but not the temperament for AFL

Jason Winderlich would be elite by now if not for his body

Scott Lucas will be a champion

Paul Salmon is a better ruckman than a FF (made the Hawks' team of the century as a Ruck)

Bad Call:

Bradley Plain is going to be a GUN

Jason Johnson won't make it with THAT disposal

Jay Neagle will be very handy

Especially given he was 25 when recruited, Mark Baguley couldn't possibly be much more than poly-filler.

Anthony Long (sigh)

Why would we take Melksham ahead of Kane Lucas?

Kyle Reimers is an X factor match winner

Good calls

  • got on melksham early, always knew he would be a player. Same with baguley
  • hardy (so far this season anyway)
  • reimers is rubbish
  • that we would destroy norf and blues

bad calls include doubting myers, thinking zantuck would be good, and neagle would be a gun FF. I was adamant paul thomas was going to be a good player too (still think he was stiff to be delisted)

Good Call.

Hardingham forward.

We should have kept Henry Slattery

No bad calls.

Good Call.

Hardingham forward.

We should have kept Henry Slattery

No bad

 nice call

2 of the best, and 2 of the worst.

Good Call

1999. Mark Mercuri will win the Brownlow this year. (Runner up)

2000. We might not lose a game this year. (fark the Bulldogs.)

Bad Call

2005. Watson is fat, slow, and can't kick. Get rid of him.

2007/08/09. We should trade Ryder while we can still get something for him.

Um, couldn't you only classify that as a good call if he actually won the Brownlow, very close to being a good call, but actually a bad call?

No.

God this thread has upset me now. I reckon about 95% of the "bad calls" were things I agreed with at the time.

I'm some kind of reverse oracle.

Who is another player you reckon won't make it?

I'm some kind of reverse oracle.

I've found it therapeutic. My Jobe comment has been a major source of shame, but seeing some of the other stuff that's come out... Did someone REALLY suggest Camporeale was a good pickup??? :P

Good call:

Scott Lucas - defended him when he really was the whipping boy on the old BT

Baguley would become one of the first picked players each week (said this in his first few games)

We were very mistaken in delisting Houli

Bad Call:

James Hird should be permanently replaced as captain due to being too injury prone (1998/99)

Hooker should have been traded for those 2 picks a few years back

Myers should be delisted

For about the first four years I was on here, megz had a new favourite player/avatar every year and they all got delisted/cut/traded that year. Was good.

None of them were Chris Judd either.

Bad Calls:

Rioli will be around forever, he's my favourite player.

Reimers will be around forever, he's my favourite player.

Crameri will be around forever, he's my favourite player.

Good Call

- Not to pursue Dayle Gartlett.

- We need to move on Lonergen, Dyson, Slattery and Prismall. All been good servants but have little more improvement to give.

- Hurley should play back.

- Dean Rioli is the most talented player I have seen in the reserves, will be a superstar.

- David Myers needs to play midfield or we'll wreck him as a footballer.

- That reserves player Hird looks like he'll be a good footballer

- Crameri has got a bit of the figjams doesn't he, gonna be a problem down the track

- Announcing Ambrose gonna be a ripper on draft day

Bad Call

- We should trade Hooker while he has value.

- Courtney Johns is gonna be the next Carey when he gets over his hip.

- Had faith Neagle would come good. (lost all faith watching him "chase" his opponent down field)

- Jason Laycock will also come good.

- Brad Plain and Micheal Werner will be a dynamic duo.

- Kyle Reimers will be a star and cult hero.

- Why don't we play Shane Stremple at full forward, he's kicking bags in the reserves and will be a star.

- Darren 'Doc' Weildon is a great get.

Future Call

- We will win 15+ games this year
- Gleeson will poll well in future brownlows and come close to winning one
- Carlton will finish 2nd last this year (brutal draw)

Shameful Call

"I'd trade Hird for Schwartz in a second" (in my defence, this was when Schwartz looked like the new Carey and was cutting it up in the 94' finals, Hird was yet to be a superstar we know him as now.......and I was semi-retarded as a teen)

oh and...f$@k Carlton

Bad Call

-Michael Still will be a gun

Who is another player you reckon won't make it?

At the risk of further entrenching my track record, I think history will remember Kommer as a one-season wonder.

Yes :(

Good Call

Get rid of the Knightmare

Staying the faith with James Hird & EFC (some of my former mates jumped off)

Bad Call

Rubbishing Jake Melksham (how many shoe fit in mouth)

Defending C Johns AND Gumby - gunna be stars ffs
