It’s terrible structure, but the logic is in 2 parts:

First story:
Teen charged with murder after grandmother stabbed.

Second story:
Mother of aforementioned teen apologised to the family of the murdered grandmother, hence:
Mother of <previous headline, which should explain what teen we’re talking about> speaks

I wonder if it’s an AI headline…

I’m trying to get keyboard software amended, so that every time the user hits the apostrophe key, the software comes back with “Do you really need that apostrophe?”, and if the user answers Yes, then context is checked, particularly with pronouns, and the software says “Really? I think not” and locks the user out. Only permissible if it’s a contracted pronoun or a possessive.

Or a contracted verb. Eg, it’s raining outside. (It isn’t, by the way. And n’t is permissible too.)
