Replacing someone with an emergency listed players isnt playing games. It happens all the time.
With putting a clearly underdone Joe in the side might disadvantage us, as it isnt an ideal preparation for him.
So these changes arent really advantageous for us, so no big conspiracy here.

There may also have been some concerns around Bellchambers, and the last 2 were really the next in line (cover for Hooker not getting up? And maybe for someone else with a question mark over them that we don’t know about)
If there were only 4 “types” in a team you might argue that we could have covered every eventuality, but if we never had any doubt on Clarke, and had others who we had some concerns about, then it can be a legitimate situation where Essendon decided the $5K was the best option to maximise our chances of winning.
Does anyone really think Essendon, of all clubs, likes giving away $5K if they can avoid it?
