In memoriam. Australian Journalism. Judd Wept

I’m reading a story about who might eventually replace Tim Watson as Ch7s sports announcer. It refers to Tony Jones’s personal hatred towards TW. Surely not! That’d be like hating Bambi.

Compensating for literally everyone hating him.

It’s weird, isn’t it?
Find me one person who’ll publicly say, ‘you know who I really like? Kyle Sandilands.’

And.
Yet.

We get who they give us.
Just don’t watch.

Didn’t Watson say Jones wore hair plugs years ago and Jones has never forgiven him?

I have heard it said that Timmy can be hard to get along with at times. I remember a few times after an event, when in the eventual drinking school that contained TD, Simon Madden, Harves and others of that era, that Timmy Watson jokes were regular, especially after he had been MC at the function. I never got the impression that he was not liked but that he could be annoying.

Relations between Tim and some of his former team mates could be a bit compromised by Tim putting his career interests as a sport journalist ahead of his loyalty to Essendon.

Maybe, but as I remember the banter about Tim went back to his playing days.

Sunday’s Ch7 Spotlight show took a massive swipe at the ABC over the commando Heston Russell case. Auntie came across as crooked as Al Capone.

Yeah…but Channel 7 and Spotlight. Wouldn’t be pinning my colours to that mast, knowing Kerry Stokes’s love for our military.

Not this time though. Already cost Auntie, or rather the taxpayer, nearly 4 million smackers.

Why the Oz runs out of decent journalists:
Paul Toohey does responsible reporting on the trial of someone for acts of such utter depravity that Court Officers are excused from the room.
The editor imposes a pic of a wild eyed Aboriginal with a knife .
The depraved person just happened to be a white man.

May it burn. Bring on the internecine Murdoch conflagration and at least have things reset for a week or two without some carnt directing world affairs from their gold iphone. Is James possibly human? I have my doubts

Im certainly not a friend of Tim. I see him every now and then. However I have had a bit to do with him over the years. He has always been a very friendly, genial and genuine person to be around. The personality he presents in the media is what I’ve experienced away from the media. He’s always been a likeable person who’s shown interest in others from my experiences. A very nice bloke. His wife is lovely and it’s no surprise they’ve raised Jobe to into an equally likeable personality.

It’s a bloody mess. Sounds like the footage was doctored to push a position. So much for great journalism. The ABC was successfully sued by Mr Russell for defamation - he was awarded $390,00. This has a smell about it. Let’s see if the “internal review” brings some action. Will it rate a mention on Media Watch?

It wasn’t on last week’s media watch. Either not enough time or too busy bagging other channels for making up their stories.

IIRC, it was the sound played over the vid, guns firing etc, when it was not in a combat zone.
Media Watch has not spared the ABC in the past.
ABC has an ongoing issue with Latouff and has been criticised for lack of balance in reporting on conflicts. It now has a lot online that never makes it to audio or TV, including reporting by John Lyons.

lol.
And also Spotlight can go eat a massive bag.

Was featured last night in an extended segment, including new details of potential issues with a related item shown on 7.30.

Commercial media (and Ch7 particularly) is in no position to take the high moral ground on matters such as this. Doesn’t mean the ABC shouldn’t be held to account. I gather an external review is now in train.

When that brave investigative journalist Nick McKenzie exposes corruption in the CFMEU, identifies them by name, but fails to identify the construction industry doing the corruption.

Concur.
But let me know when there’s a show on a commercial network that will spend time picking apart the failures of journalists on their own network.

Qanda isn’t ideal, but at least they have the guts to attempt it.

No other network would have the balls.
