Any match from Round 1, 1984 until Round 13, 1984. Just to see what Paul Salmon was like pre-knee reco. Kicked 63 goals in that time and 22 in his first 3 games of that season. Must've been a sight to behold!
He was. On track to kick 150 goals. Unstoppable. No one could match. He towered over every fullback in the league, so they used to play a ruckman on him. That didn’t work either because he was so much faster than them.

He was. The heart sank when Raines went across his knee that day at Filth Park.
I remember it also. Belted a Collingwood fan that day who had the temerity to laugh about fish’s injury.
Can I change the result of the game or just observe? If I could change it, perhaps I’d go back to 99 and change the result of the prelim somehow. Streak the field in the last quarter or something.
I too was at the 93 cats game. Ablett kicked 7 goals 7 behinds in the first half! Then 7 goals straight in the second half.
Was also at the centenary game for boris (and longy ) - it was one of the most fun and enjoyable games I’ve been to.
Was also at the Melbourne comeback game in 92. The last quarter was simply epic. So many bomber heroes.
Also at all 4 finals in 93… Just a dream month that will never be topped.
the game I’d always like to return to would be the 93 grand final. The day was just a celebration against the rival I most like to beat. After the draw against them earlier in the year… The qualifying final loss with injured players, Gavin’s Brownlow win over diesel it was such a sayisfying day which literally no one expected at the start of the year. Great day, great team, the best era for football. We win.
Great post benny.
Yeah, living in Perth during this period I would’ve loved to have been at every match of 1993, just to experience the roller coaster ride that was that season.
To watch the Baby Bombers emerge, Tim Watson’s brilliant return, Gavin Wanganeen’s mastery each week would have been heaven to witness live each week and Longy’s electrifying finals series.
Round 16 against the Eagles would’ve been a great one to be at too.
Having lost a big match against North the previous Friday night when a win would have given us top spot, the Eagles win proved pivotal in the context of our season the following Sunday.
With Salmon missing absolutely everything that day at full forward, with about 90 seconds to go , found himself with a free kick 45 metres directly in front of which he duly slotted to finish with 1.7 for the day to win the match for us.
The look of relief on his face after scoring that goal was priceless.
And this is of course where the jacket waving game was born as Sheeds walked down towards the ground through the crowd onto the ground as a repsonse to the constant whinging from Malthouse and the Eagles coaching staff in the coaches box next to them.
'93 remains my most fond premiership and season ever of following Essendon.
That was a great game! Although Fish kicked 1 goal 3 points that day- so many bombers supporters mix that up with the next week when he kicked 1 goal 7 against the blues. It’s funny but a forward kicking 1.3 is a ho hum event these days but you’re right- salmons goal to win the day was huge! Loved that game.
Yeah was at this game too. You’re right about the mix up of points, amongst my mates it’s an exaggeration that gets bigger by the year when I talk to people about it. “Remember that day Fish kick 1.17 against WCE”.
I think it was more the fact the he missed some sitters (he wasn’t on his own) but overall he just had a dog of a day at the office. Pretty sure he got more than one bronx cheer at getting benched during the day. But then he soared like an eagle rose like a pheonix off the bench late in the last quarter, and redeemed himself. All was forgiven and the crowd loved him again. “That Salmon is a star”.
In that low scoring era (yes, even lower than EFC’s 2016 side), Albert Thurgood playing CHF scored five of Essendon’s six goals to win us the game. Contemporaries said this was one of the best individual games ever.
Next week, he followed up to kick half of the team’s score to win yet another flag for Essendon. In that game - against Collingwood - one of his goals was scored with an 86-yard drop-kick, and another was scored with a 93-yard place-kick into a strong head wind.
For the young ones, even Fletch playing under the Etihad dome with no wind disadvantage never kicked the footy that FAR, let alone kick a goal that distance.
Ahaha there’s no way he kicked a 93 yard place kick. 85 meters??
I'd like to go back to Rd 2, 2015 v hawks. What a fantastic feeling that was after all the ■■■■ we'd been through.
Yep, was a beautiful day too.
Remember walking on the arena directly to the spot where Hooksey would have taken the snap, then looked around and imagined what it would feel like to win a game like that in such a fashion against the multiple Premiers.
It’s all us mere mortals can do is imagine.
I personally believe that my kick would have been prettier off the boot, and my celebration less gracious !

He place-kicked the ball 85m into a head wind?
Might be one of those stories that gathered legs over time.

Try a place kick sometime. See how far you can kick the ball. Oh, leave yourself plenty of room.

I did exactly the same thing!
Although, I’d go back to Essendon vs Port Adelaide, Round 22, 2011 or Essendon vs Carlton both times in 2013. Was sitting in opposition cheer squads for all those games and the joy in seeing so many opposition supporters almost in tears was incredible.
1993 GF and I'd be there in my BIG FISH number 3 Nubrik jersey.
1993 is still my favourite year of all time. What I’d give for another batch of Baby Bombers to give us that euphoric rise to the top. Possibly the greatest coaching triumph by Sheeds to bring on a bunch of kid in 1992, next year win a flag. We still had a group left over from 84-85 in Harvs, Fish, Bomber and Timmy, and another group in between the 2 such as Bewick, O’Donnell, Long, Grenvold.
