Bombers fans will be pleased to hear the Hervey Bay Bombers went four for four in the local final today at Maryborough. Under 12 Bombers Black def Bombers White (guaranteed win there) and U/14, Ressies and Seniors all belted local rivals Bay Power, who wear the dreaded teal and black. About eight send-offs for the game, mostly them, kept the crowd entertained.
Yours truly worked a lazy day in the Fruitbats Bar, ensuring all drinkers were well catered for.
Go Bombers.
My local mob straight through to the GF after nearly Essingtoning it. Had only lost once for the year and despite inaccuracy we led by a couple of goals at half time. Rain came and the opposition kicked 5.1 to 0.8 to lead by 8 points entering time on in the last. We wrestled back the lead only for them to get a very dubious free on the siren. 40m out on the boundary line with a wet ball and missed it narrowly. Henry Slattery is assistant coach of the other mob and Jay Nash also involved. We will now play either them again in the GF or Andrew Jarman’s mob
The chip is finally getting an upgrade

Up the Lions!
Down 9.3 to 0.0 halfway through the second quarter and win 15.5 to 14.5. Out first A grade flag in 28 years and great for us older blokes to finally hand over the baton
That’s a fair comeback
Apologies if posted elsewhere. I see Liam Jones has signed up with Palm Beach Currumbin Lions. Life in the Sunshine State it appears for Liam.
Could be a handy mid season draft pick for the Suns if the rules change.
Was at Norwood today so missed out on the GF replay in the local league. They handed us our only defeat this year to date and are sitting third but we thrashed them by 129 points today.
Sitting at 11-1 with 5 games to go and 9 of those wins have been by over 60 points including 4 by 110+
First season of playing AFL and couldn’t have went any better. Edinburgh beating Glasgow in the granny on Saturday in the mens and woman’s
Been a bit happening at my end since I last posted.
After doing my knee last year I returned to footy this year.
And what a year it has turned out to be.
In recent weeks I have been made life member of the VAFAUA and then just last Saturday umpired my 400th game down at AJAX. A draw to boot.
Well done mate. When did you umpire your first game? 400 games is a great stint!
Round 3 1997! Was at Gillon Oval at Brunswick in C Grade.
I assume they were still NOBS back then!
Indeed.
Perhaps receiving life membership is just as significant, probably even more so than the 400 games. Very humbled in receiving it. The plaque for it sits at home proudly.
9 goal winners in the semi today to go straight through to our 3rd consecutive GF.
Only lost 1 game for the season last year and so far the same this year
Have you read up on the player eligibility snafu at Lockleys?
Yeah, the league got it spot on IMO. Very similar thing happened at Renmark the same week and they copped a $5k fine and lost 4 points next season. Lockleys still got through to the GF thankfully for them
Yep, club owned it and admitted the mistake, wasn’t a deliberate act, I used to play with the bloke who stuffed up.
Disturbingly he’s received a bit of hate on the socials.
What was the mistake?
I read an article about how Renmark in the Riverland Football League got punished for a player playing B grade in the first week of the finals and A grade the second week. Seemed a bit unfair given he had qualified for both grades and had played both grades most weeks of the season. Also the fact B grade played the first week would have meant you would have had to carry players over in case someone got injured between the games. Maybe I was missing something.
I’m not exactly sure why the player they fielded was ineligible, but here’s their statement from the Facebooks:
Club Statement
Unfortunately, an administrative error has resulted in the Club inadvertently fielding an ineligible player in Saturday’s A-Grade semi-final against Hectorville. The player in question is a registered Lockleys player who had played 10 A-Grade games in Season 2022.
As a result, the Adelaide Footy League Investigation Committee has reversed the result of Saturday’s game. This means Hectorville now move directly to the Grand Final and Lockleys will now play Gepps Cross on Saturday for a spot in the Grand Final.
The hearing with the Investigation Committee was extensive and while the Club has been penalised, they have quoted in today’s paper as saying, “we are comfortable Lockleys did not deliberately circumnavigate the rule”.
As a Club we stand by our value of owning our mistakes, and this is one of those moments. We thank the Coaching Group, Players and Committee for the support given to the matter and the personnel involved.
Some say that the best wins are the hardest fought…so let’s get behind the Club, the team, the players and all of the individuals who have collectively worked their hearts out to get this far.
Let’s get out to X-Convenience Oval (Elizabeth Oval) at 2.15pm this Saturday 3rd September and show our support.
If ever there was time the Club needed supporters to show united front, it’s this Saturday.
Go Dees!
