Make the US Politics Thread Great Again

Who denigrated him?

Sadly, it is illegal for there to be an electronic gun ownership database. Instead everything is stored hard copy and people have to manually collate information. Of millions and millions and millions of guns. If 2017. It costs an absolute fortune.

It is illegal to collect national detailed gun violence data by the CDC. Each city voluntarily does some or no collections based of ok to bad methods. There’s no accurate info in the states on the causes and injuries caused by guns. We truly have no idea of the scale and causes of gun violence. We have no idea what causes increases and decreases. We have theories, but without data we can’t prove them and use those learnings to save lives. Instead we get misinformation and half truths because that’s the best we have, and there’s no data to disprove the NRA.

There’s no requirement to report a gun you own as stolen. You can buy a gun, it gets used in a crime, you report it stolen a year ago. Hell, you buy it for a random and sell it to him same day, no worries. Police are screwed even if they can prove you purchased the weapon. And I say IF THEY CAN because it requires the local hard copy info to be turned into a fuckjng microfiche and manually found.

It would be great if they started by repealing the idiotic laws that block the effectiveness of the police. Forget about gun control, that’s clearly too hard. How some effective laws to measure and prosecute gun violence.

Let’s spend a moment to think of all the good things that civilians do with machine guns everyday.

Five is way out!

Crushing, crushing victory for the Dems in the Virginia elections today. Retook the governorship, got a swing of 10 seats in a hundred seat chamber. A guy who openly calls himself a ‘Democratic Socialist’ got elected, and a trans candidate knocked off a prominent anti-LGBT campaigner. Apparently Asian & Hispanic voter turnout up 20% on last time.

Might be a few republicans looking nervously at this one. But for the dems, the big deal is that this means THEY’LL be the ones drawing the electoral boundaries this time round and will be able to undo the repubs gerrymander. And probably set up one of their own, politics being what they are…

Interesting. Hillary won Virginia with 49.7% vs 44.4%. For them to get such a significant swing 1 year after Trump’s election means a big swing against the Republicans.

Slightly off topic but not too far. Did anyone else see Dateline last night? A Norwegian (I think he was from Norway) documentary maker was doing a story on illegal immigrants into to US via the Mexican border and what impact Trump’s wall might have on those who attempt the crossing. What a sad affair that was. I had no idea that so many people die doing the 3x day journey on foot. Even more depressing was the volunteer groups on the US side of the border. On one hand you have groups of (presumably) non-citizens who collect people who don’t survive and arrange burial or the return of the remains to loved ones back in the country or origin. On the other hand, he interviewed a Nazi sympathiser who, in the company of his Fräulein, takes it upon himself to capture illegal entrants and hand them over to border patrol in order to, in his words, “keep the USA white”. The interviewer also spoke to several illegal entrants who had successfully made it across the border and were now living out their dreams. Gees… From their 1st hand accounts of exploitation and the constant fear of capture and deportation, you have to wonder how bad conditions are in their countries of origin to put up with living like that in the US.

Didn’t see it but have read in the past about the percentage of people exploited or traumatised, one way or the other, on the way to the US.

It doesn’t stop when they get there, either. One bloke had been in the US for years and he conceded that none of his hopes or ambitions in life had been achieved and he doesn’t believe they ever will, in-spite of his trying. He just gets by. It’s a ruthless place with an endless supply of dreamers hoping for a better life being preyed upon by an endless line of dodgy employers, schemers, crooks and scumbags.

Classic Don. Demands total loyalty, gives none. All about him, except any blame that might be going around.

Fark me. Wow.

I’ve heard his earlier tweets were saying vote tomorrow. Lol.

This wanker is doing wonders for some entrepreneurs at least.
