Match Review Thread: Bad News Bears def Worse News Bombers

Was confident of a win and had my hopes up all week but how wrong I was lol but not surprised in the end result. A performance like this deserves an apology to the fans.

Im as fkg ■■■■■■ as anyone but it seems like skipworth is a easy target

He cant help accuracy. We kick them goals in the third and we would have been in the game

A forward coach that can’t help the forwards get better? Pretty much makes him a target doesn’t it?

I was happy enough with Zerrett, Raz, Tippa, Francis, Lav, Langford, Joe, BJ. The only one who was really dissapointing was Zaka but maybe this is just him, not the first player good enough to get a tag but not good enough to beat it.

The rest are just battlers who are just making up the numbers.

I’m sceptical about the blame our forward coaches get year after year. It just seems like Jackets has got to do a better job in picking some decent forwards at some point.

that is incredibly poor logic

everybody was missing today, players with good skills missed easy shots, laverde, tippa, mckenna, cooney all missed multiple gettable goals, and they all generally have good skills

why you would bring dodoro into this i have no idea.

A couple of weeks ago McKenna went up one handed against StKilda in the backline and dropped the mark - Saints goal. Today almost exactly the same - Lions goal. Where is the coaching? Then he runs into an open goal and misses as well as the set shot miss. Last week 6 k 6 h and this week 7 k 7 h. How is his skills and his output acceptable for AFL? It's not the suburban or country league?

Last week 11k 4h handballs, actually. Same as Zaka. This week 7k 7h, better than Zaka. He hasn’t been great, but seems like a pretty random guy to single out.

guy whos played under 100 games of footy (IN TOTAL) playing better than AFL veteran and guy with aspirations of captaincy at club.

nah ■■■■ that new guy.

I'm just so amazed at how ubiquitous the bad goal kicking is. It's not just one forward, it's everyone!

It would be nice if we played against a team who wasn’t banging every goal, no matter how far out or how slight the angle.

Brisbane 20-8 (av. 11.12)
Richmond 16-6 (av. 14.12)
St Kilda 17-7 (av. 14.11)
WC 20-10 (av. 11.11)

Even Freo kicked 20-6! (av. 13.13)

Now with added season averages just to make it a little more frustrating.

I can't be the only one that is blaming the coaching panel for tanking that game.

They simply did not care enough about our clubs history to try and avoid the wooden spoon.

Except for the fact that if we could kick straight for goals we probably would have won.

But yeah, tanking.

Oh yes… you’re right… silly me. Its just the goal kicking that lost us the game.

Lucky we’ve been kicking so straight all year, and it came as a complete surprise. I’m sure if the coaches had some time to fix it they would’ve. And I imagine if they couldn’t they’d play blokes forward who could.

They clearly chose future development over winning that game. Well they can get ■■■■■■. It should cost a few of them their jobs.

haha, what?! Our future kept us in that game and developed very nicely.

At least we won’t get beaten by the worst team in the comp this year!

I reckon Dempsey is finished, papers stamped and he knows it.

Apparently he and McKenna had a heated exchange after he got dragged. Should have been told there and then to go pack his bags.

No reflection on Demps as a person, however he’s gained a reputation at the club for finger pointing. Always someone else’s fault, never his. I’d imagine that heated exchange would be a lot of that.

Daniher 4.1
Fantasia 3.1

Cant expect much more from them two.

Brown kicked 1.2 and kicked the hard one missed 2 easy ones.

Tippa 1.3
Not good enough.

Forwardline could work better but Brisbane put good pressure on IMO.

How farking hard was it for the club to record supplements names correctly so as to not leave any doubt.

One things for sure, its not my fault.

Skipworth surely has photos of the contents of Danks fridge. No other explanation why this clown has kept a job for so long

Chill out, you will all be rejoicing midweek about how great it is to have the no1 pick and who you want to walk into the psd........if anything, that game just exposed the dead wood that needs to be let go at years end.

Not much use having the number one pick if we cant develop them.

It is a subtle art , the players playing to win at the same time as selecting a team and a coaching panel to which is more about development than winning games.

Generally there is agreement with the Shaw strategy of playing younger players to find out what they can do, rather than play top ups purely to try to win games/limit losses.

Resting experienced players like Bird could be a part of that strategy. Also settling for a development coach (Skipworth) rather than an experienced successful forward coach, or having a key position coach or a clearances coach (like Hawthorn have), or a goal kicking coach for that matter.

This could be seen as not really trying to fully develop the team as yet, with perhaps trying to keep things basic and settle for having a crack and try to come close. Perhaps our draft picks and PSD position are taking preference over winning and avoiding the spoon.

If our young players can finish the year mentally intact with more competitive performances to come and hopefully a rousing victory over Carlton in round 23, we get our draft picks, and most of the 12 back (minus Pears if he’s MFB bound) and a full and expert coaching panel next year, then we have had a positive 2016 and can look forward to 2017.

We are NOT going to beat Carlton. If we had of won today I would have had a different opinion. My confidence is shot with this team. Hopefully I will recover before the next game.

We are not really talking about forwards, although we have been in the past. Our forward running patterns etc leave a lot to be desired. However it is our inability to hit a target, namely the person sitting in the stand behind the goals that is the problem.

And it appears to be one of the viruses going through the team that is catching. Perhaps we need Thymosin. We certainly need something.

Reckon the playing group as a while might’ve had their guard down a bit today. Never looked focussed or aggressive enough.
Most weeks when we’ve been competitive they’ve had to bring maximal intensity to stay within striking distance/keeping a respectable scoreline. Didn’t see that same level today, notwithstanding that we also kicked ourselves out of it when we did get on top in general play in patches.

Francis looked very good for a first gamer which was a shining light on a dark afternoon.

Can’t believe that in a side coached by one of the hard nuts of footy we have no one with any mongrel in them whatsoever. What I’d give for a defender who gives the forwards an ear massage and make them earn it. Gleeson and Dea squibbed it several times again today when they could of legally ran through their opponent or atleast made a contest instead of watching them take a chest mark.

If you’d been to the vfl when he was coaching and listened to one of his ‘stirring’ 3qtr time speeches you know he was just like the dad that coaches u12s and puts his ■■■■ truck son in the team at forward pocket and says ‘great game’ even though the spud didn’t touch the ball once.

Not even upset.

I was like that too. This year I’ve been pretty numb to the losses.
Saw some good positives again today.
Prefer to just leave it at that
