Memberships

Local cricket grand finals Saturday afternoon will impact a little bit as well.

I know a few who would usually attend not being there due to this.

So those with Gold Bay memberships, when redeeming tickets for the MCG what’s the difference between these 2?

I thought we’d pull 50k easy this week against Adelaide. Sat arvo at the G will get casual fans/AFL members as well.

An MCG attendant will hold your hand throughout the match.

We havent drawn 50k against any interstate side bar Sydney in about 20 years.

I think people have us mixed up with bigger clubs who can draw those crowds.

A rubbish comment with respect.

Only last season, at Marvel it drew 40,000 against a basement Eagles. No bandwagon, no neutrals, not even a contest expected.

You can’t engage fans until they start winning. When they start winning, they will come out of the woodwork from everywhere. Like Richmond did. Like Carlton did. At this point they will draw the neutrals as well which probably accounts for another 5-6,000.

Essendon favs are disengaged and don’t trust the team. Until they can trust the team, crowds will be kept under a tight lid.

The notion Essendon isn’t a big club, as big as Richmond or Carlton is nonsense.

Correct. In Round 4 2019, we played the Lions on a sunny Saturday afternoon at the MCG and drew just over 48K—a pretty poor turnout in hindsight.

Essendon were 1W /2L right?

Only 8 weeks later it drew 61,000 against the Swans. Richmond never did that against the Swans.

That was a strong turnout against the Swans.

I still believe we don’t attract the huge MCG crowds against interstate teams that we like to think we do. I agree, this is largely due to our own poor on-field performance. However, like you, I’m confident that attendance will surge if/when we turn a corner and start climbing the ladder to contend.

I’ve got no doubt about it. They have to start performing first, then they will come from all over the joint to watch them again.

The Walla game???

There’s gonna be 29k and we will win.

If it was at Marvel we would get 30k max

MCG normally get us another 10k. Plus it’s early in the season so the majority of fans haven’t completely fallen into deep despair

Wake up and smell the coffee Maple.

We are NEVER going to be a good team again who can be trusted.

Everyear for what 15 year, 20 years? and Im guilty of it too its wait til we come good and the crowds will be huge, the memberships will be huge etc.

Its not happening, its never going to happen and the longer it goes the more we’re falling behind other Vic clubs in terms of support.

Collingwood are drawing 60k for fun, we draw 35k.

Hawthorn are genuinely on track to over take us if they havent already, imagine playing Hawthorn like we did on Friday infront of 80k and being so fkn outnumbered by a previously minnow club like Hawthorn.

I know it was an away game but go back to 2009 when we last drew a smilar crowd for a Hawthorn away game and we completely outnumbered them, it was the lloyd on sewell game and 70% of the crowd was Essendon.

In 15 years weve lost support and Hawthorn have gained, likely significantly .

Absolutely convinced this fixture is a test by the AFL to prove we shouldn’t have more MCG games because our crowds stink.

In which case the club would only have itself to blame. You can’t be shithouse and make crap decision after crap decision for 20-plus years and expect there not to be a some sort of drop-off in memberships and crowds.

Tinpot club will have truly reaped what it has sown.
