F*ck YES!
unpopular take, most important thing in the early history of punk was not any particular band or album, but Epitaph/SSTbeing founded in 78-79-1980.
Every punk band before that was pushing ā ā ā ā uphill, fighting against labels & producers who just didnāt get it.
Every punk band after that could sign with someone who did.
And anyone who reckons Punk āfinishedā or ended in 78 or whatever can tongue mine.
Cosmic Psychos definitely still bring it. Fucken great stuff.
Not my favourite genre of music but I will have a crack
Minor Threat
Rancid
Greenday
Fugazi
The Buzzcocks
Social Distortion
Dead Kennedys
Iggy Pop and the Stooges
Pennywise
Bad Religion
but what a belter of an album it was
Fun fact for all Ramone fansā¦ anyone can play all their songs. All you need to know is the same 3 chords as thatās all the guitarist every played for each song.
Amen
Gatekeeping fans of punk music are the FKNG WORST.
Top ten Epitaph bands of 1992.
āPeople forget that 90% of the UK Punk bands in 1976, were fcking sht.ā Don Letts
Well, duh.
Dillinger Escape Plan.
My 10 in no particular order as I feel about it right this minute
Blink 182
The Saints

Offspring
Green Day
Millencolin
NOFX
Dropkick Murphys
Frenzal Rhomb
Less Than Jake
Also controversial but, I think there some ethos at play in terms of doing whatever you wether anyone else likes it or not.
Itās a tough genre to pigeonhole.
Even from the first wave, you almost can define their sound by geography.
For me thereās heaps, and always finding new ones from way back when
Radio Birdman
Misfits
The Cramps
The Damned
Dead Kennedys
X
Fugazi
Bad Brains
Black Flag
D.O.A.
Minor Threat
Bad Religion
One Inch Punch (Mid Youth Crisis)
Pennywise
Scientists
No Use For A Name
No fun at all
Operation Ivy
Rancid
Thereās heaps of others
Yes. The Bronx!!
Finally somebody has Buzzcocks at the top
What Puciato did at Reading is about as punk as it gets. But yeah, there are always going to be the genre, sub/genre, crossover, who fits where questions. I was thinking of the trouble a Top 10 Metal bands would cause.
I tend not to listen to music by genre anyway. Fugazi sits nicely beside Entombed on any mix I make.
Killing Joke
The Stooges
XTC
Gang of Four
Viagra Boys
Discharge
Devo
Melvins
Helmet
Ian Dury & The Blockheads
One of my favourite recent examples is White trash Rob from Blood for Bloodās project band Ramallah. Their first record is awesome, everything after it not so much.
