NBA 2025/2026

Connaughton and two 2nds for Micic confirmed.

Hornets now have too many players after signing all four draftees to real contracts , so at the very least there’ll be some players cut. You’d suspect that Okogie will be a sign and trade for picks scenario, Jefferies will surely be cut, but by my count that still leaves another couple that’ll have to go. Maybe we’ll actually waive connaughton.

It confused me a bit.
I get trading Collins to free up time for Kessler and Filipowski.
They are still yet to sign Kessler to his extension, so maybe the trade is also linked to that.

They also trade an expiring contract for two expiring contracts and got a future second round pick back.
It’ll be easier for them to add two smaller expiring contracts into any trades than to try and trade one bigger one. In general, when trading bigger expiring contracts, you have to throw in draft picks with it. So here, they got a pick back.

It is shuffling deck chairs though.
They’re coming up to the point where they have to start signing these rookies they’ve drafted to contracts. Kessler this year, with Hendricks, Keynote and Filipowski next year. They are already over the salary cap next year by $12mil so will be interesting what they do with Markkanen.

They could do a Brooklyn and try and stay under the salary cap and just gather multiple picks taking on other teams poor contracts. With Ainge there, they’ll do a better job at the draft table than the Nets did this past draft.

Powell is a decent player who should fit pretty well into our system, I imagine.

what a ridiculous contract

How? It will be less than 20% of the cap in the final two years which will be unders for most franchise players.

I don’t think most people understand how max extensions and the cap works.

You definitely have that right.

The salary cap is getting higher. It’s actually growing less than teams were planning for.
But teams are looking at the percentage of the cap that players are holding rather than the actual figure.

This Booker one will surpass the Luka Doncic one (per year and assuming he signs). Because of the trade, we get him at a discount. But once he crosses the 10 years in the league mark, he can sign for a certain percentage of the salary cap as a max contract. Without looking at it too much, is what Booker contract is based on.

Yeah, I know no one is going to pay him that much as a free agent, but you don’t use that to low ball players on contract extensions.

Now the tricky part is dealing with Beal’s buyout. I can’t recall seeing too many teams with the mid level exception ($14mil) available, so he may have to take the other exception ($8mil). Which means they can take around $8mil off each year he’s owed and then stretch it across the next 5 years. That’s close to $19mil per year. I think that just fits within the 15% of a salary cap to go towards waived players. And I don’t think it needs to be the same value every year like the Lillard one, so it can grow as the salary cap grows.

Taking $30mil off the salary cap means you go under the 1st apron (I think). At the very least the team isn’t bleeding tax payments while working their way through the next few years.

It’s still a bit unbalanced with Green and Booker there. But Green’s $35mil contract isn’t too hard to work around. Worst case, he’ll be exciting to watch in the meantime.

Cooper Flagg 5 from 21 in his first game in Mavs colours, 10 points

Can only get better

Keeping receipts

We need to get him from $110 to $94mil. The hold up is him finding a club that can pay $8mil a year and not the 5.4mle

We are 22mil over 1st and 2nd apron.

We get rid of Beals $55mil and turn it into $18 per year, we are under both aprons and can aggregate salaries. We would also have 14 mil mle available.

Huge move to buyout and stretch.

Ouch. Below the belt. Even for you.

I really enjoy summer league and watching all the rookies but this summer league has been extra fun so far.

Very impressed with Brea today.

I’m only going off game reviews, it sounds like Kon struggled in his first outing but McNeely was on fire off the bench. And promising improvement from Salaun .

Two from two for Hornets. Neither Edgecomb (Philly) or Knueppel (hornets) played . Salaun and McNeely both had good games again, but Tidjane is still prone to turnovers.

KJ Simpson is an interesting conundrum , roster spots are incredibly tight but he’s had two good SL games in a row. I’d say Nick Smith is in big trouble positionally and will be traded / cut.
