He’s a heckin chonky thicc boi that knows his way around a stoppage, is clean and creative by hand and loves to tackle / throw his weight around. Add the fact that we might be able to get him by matching with second round picks and he’s a literal anti-Dodoro selection!
I know this is an overly simplistic way of looking at things, but I’ve had this heuristic that I’ve used since Will Phillips. If you’re physically small and not an elite athlete or an elite kick then you have hurdles to overcome. Sweid has strength and power in the way he moves which helps to overcome the size issue at least somewhat, but I still think that he’ll be overlooked a lot by recruiters due to those kind of limitations, not to mention the fact that he’s an NGA so they’re going to put less work into scouting him.
He might end up a first rounder, but for me as it stands, I think its unlikely. Which ultimately is good for us. If we can get him in the middle of the pool somewhere then it takes the pressure off and gives us more flexibility with our picks.
he’s a chunky boy.
what was waterman’s nickname Chungus.

I like him a lot, but I agree his athletic profile is limiting. He’s also pretty slow, relative to AFL level players.
I’d love to know what sweid did in his off year with a knee reco, every part of his game seems to have improved, other than physicality which he’s always had.
He must have been in the gym the whole year working on his agility, speed and fitness and that’s translated into being cleaner with the ball too, coz the legs aren’t as heavy.
Yep - he has got some man child elements to him which means recruiters may not see the same scope for growth as others.
In any event, I hope we take him and get to do it as late as possible.
Kako, Nguyen, Huss and Sweid is some kind of United Nations mosquito fleet - and I’m here for it.
Is he an average nick? He looks to have a slightly unorthodox action and seems to miss a few kicks… There’s natural kicks and there’s poor kicks. Is he somewhere in between if we’re being objective about his skill as a kick?
If this is true he will certainly drop in the rankings. A cheap pickup maybe.
Did he have a full beard at 14?
I don’t think he looks slow at all. Are you basing this on records/stats of his top speed?
Nope, just watching him play football.
So many muslims in my high school had beards at 14 or 15 haha
Phillips is also limited because he is one dimensional, he can’t play forward and he can’t play back.
Having the ability to be used as a forward or in the forward half doubles your chances of making it if you’re sub 180cn
Can’t help but compare him to Touk Miller tbh. Arguably more creative with ball in hand though.
The second half of the dynamic small forward duo with Dovaston, Hussien El Achkar was inches away from tearing the Young Guns apart in this game. His ability to continually find dangerous space in the forward 50 and create shots on goal was elite, but he was unfortunately unable to direct most of those shots through the big sticks.
He is going to be a gun
Caleb Daniel fell to the thirties, Touk Miller went 29 and Neale went in the fifties.
Every chance he slips.
Given that the discount on academy and f/s selections is now only 10%, do you expect to see clubs passing on the kids they have first refusal on, @noobermensch ?
I’d hate to see us draft Sweid or El Ackar partly because we can get them slightly cheaper. I want us to be totally sold on them and see the discount as a happy bonus.
Its definitely more likely to happen now that the discount is lower and you can’t rort the system by matching with late picks.
I do still think that passing will be rare. There are a lot of reasons why a club tied kid is more appealing. You’ve probably already integrated them with your senior squad somewhat through training sessions, you’ve been able to guide their development, you’ve been able to set your squad up in advance knowing they’re coming.
I think its more likely that you’ll see clubs passing when they just have too many and lack the points needed to cover them all. There’s a chance that the Suns could end up in that situation this season with Uwland, Patterson and Addinsall all potential top 20 guys.
Good point about the adjustment of points. Much harder to nab a late first with later junk picks.
And yeah, having familiarised the kids with the senior squad is a bonus. Just hope we’re picking them for the right reasons.
Taking a less than optimal type of player because we can get them slightly cheaper and because they’re kinda already integrated smacks of a Dodoro move.
Do you believe Sweid and El Ackar fill needs? El Ackar is a mid/forward hybrid, right? Could he be played exclusively as a small forward?
He was very fumbly there.
Would hope he is normally a lot cleaner than that as a small forward with average pace.
His passing by foot was excellent, so not concerned about his missed conversions on goal.
