I doubt it will have much impact unless the AFL changes the draft value index

Did you miss that the AFL changed the draft value index?

Anyone know what type of player Blake Justice is? Langford/ Nic Martin style mobile forward or a Jack Darling undersized key forward?

Justice at last!

I don’t know anything about him, but given he’s 16, he might not be “undersized” as a key forward…

How long till the AFL kneejerk reaction reverts the reverted changes to NGA bidding?

Soon you’d imagine. It’s great that it’s benefiting us but geez the NGA function for teams is a rort.

it’s brought it part way back to zone days, plus the draft.

It really has. It’s shithouse and completely dilutes the draft pool.

How I’d like to see it:

  • GWS, GC & Tassie the only teams that have NGA access. They’re too young as clubs to have father sons, so that helps offset that.

  • AFL oversee the NGA, rather than the clubs. The kids from different cultural backgrounds still get access to the development pathways but it’s AFL ran and funded. These players are then available in an open draft pool and clubs can then divest into different avenues.

He’s a tall, mobile, half forward. Good skills and movement, clean, really nice shot on goal. Personal opinion is neither of those guys…hopefully a Mitch Owens type would be nice

It’s been proven to not work as effectively as when it’s club run.

I think as long as they

  1. stop the kids that shouldn’t be included, IE the Greeves and Cochrane types who have been brought up in traditional, non marginalised football families only to deep dive into their family history a year or two out from the draft;
  2. The make sure the club investment aligns with which round they have access to
  3. Ensure clubs have to pay a comparable price for where the bid comes and don’t get that double dip then there is nothing to complain about.

At the moment it seems the clubs that are benefiting are the clubs that have invested in them. Us, Collingwood and the northern clubs.

Conversely the Dogs who seemingly benefitted with JUH despite having little if any input into his actual development in regards professionalism, standards or even having any kind of indigenous programs or support around him are now reaping the what they sowed. They as a club are notorious with their indigenous outreach and some of the stories I’ve heard about how their fans treat their past indigenous players, it’s not surprising that JUH hasn’t fit in there.
