Had to give back his Brownlow and his dad.
what does that mean if a club doesnt nominate you and you go undrafted, can said fathers club put you onto the rookie list? (lets call this the Tom McGuane rule)
Pretty sure you can auto take him as a rookie before any other club can bid in the rookie draft. But I think you wouldâve had to nominate you want to take him before the draft (unless this weird rule has changed) which they havenât.
Whatâs the chance Sweid settles into a forward pocket/high half forward role despite his midfield time throughout jnrs?
Obviously not up to him completely but that repeat effort and goal nous would hold him in great stead, does he have the craft to realistically play that role out long-term?
LOL, we are the outlier in that list.
Need a Jerry Springer DNA test
Good to see El-Achkar working out hard on instagram. Greater fitness will make his game go up a level
The South Australian sides get really dicked by the look of that chart. Havenât yet collected on father sons, donât get the academy.
Iâm assuming since they both entered in the 90s they will soon start to catch up.
Also the hawks eh. Traded away Josh Kennedy who would have had them up near the top.
I thought Iâd add this here.
couple of 2026 eligible Tiwi island kids have started off the season reasonably well in the Northern Territory Football League
Edward Darcy Junior kicked 5 goals in round 1 of the under 17s comp before a season debut in round 2. The Davey twins were on the other side of the ledger as Darcyâs Wandererâs won 54 - 45
Mathias Burke-Miller has been named best on and third best in both of his Darwin Buffaloes under 17s games kicking a goal in round 2.
Expecting both to be in and around the NT sides for 2026 when they pop up for some games in the Coates Talent League and eventually in the Allies group for the champs.
Whatâs the chance Sweid settles into a forward pocket/high half forward role despite his midfield time throughout jnrs?
In our development program? Zero chance. Heâll be trialled on a wing before being trialled as a floating CHB but mostly resting back pocket. In the VFL. For his first 4 years.
Like brothersâ: Essendon set to snare Adam Sweid and Hussein El Achkar in AFL draft - Herald Sun
Adam Sweid and Hussein El Achkar are thick as thieves, with the pair âlike brothersâ. Hereâs what the top NGA products can bring to the Bombers â and their connection to a current young Dons gun.

They grew up in the same suburbs of Melbourne, with the same backgrounds and the same sporting passion.
But Adam Sweid and Hussien El Achkar were long-time opponents on the football field before they became teammates and later self-anointed âbrothersâ.
Sweid started his football journey in under-10s at the small Essendon District Football League club of Hadfield.

A mere 2.3km away, El Achkar was playing for was plying his trade for Glenroy.
The pairâs paths first collided in an under 11 match in 2017, where El Achkar kicked Glenroyâs only goal in a loss to a Hadfield side where Sweid was named among the best players.
A few years later, ahead of the 2021 season, El Achkar moved to Pascoe Vale.
Sweid joined him at the Panthers the following year and the two have been largely inseparable ever since.
âI think this year Iâve honestly spent more time with him (Sweid) than my family,â El Achkar said.
âHe has been in my car just about every day. Weâve been so close for the past two or three years.â
Both Sweid and El Achkarâs father were born in Lebanon, with their extended families as connected as they are in the northern suburbs.
âGrowing up, our families and our community were very tight,â Sweid said.
âI know his community very well, he knows my community very well. Our cousins know each other. So weâre very close in that way as well.
âWeâre almost like brothers, youâd say.â
The pairâs heritage qualified them for Essendonâs Next Generation Academy, which they have been involved with since age 15.
That means that the Calder Cannons products are likely to land at the Bombers together in Novemberâs national draft â alongside another friend and former teammate in Isaac Kako.
El Achkar inherited Kakoâs old No. 2 jumper at the Cannons this year and the first-year Bombers forward made the trip to Moorabbin to watch him play in it in round 1 of the Coates Talent League this year.
âLast year he took me under his wing,â El Achkar said of Kako.
âHe taught me how hard you have to work and a bit of the small forward craft, which is pretty cool. For him to present me with my jersey was pretty cool and even this year when I trained with Essendon he told me, âJust follow me and whatever you need Iâll be hereâ.
âItâs pretty cool to see him watching my games. When I look around sometimes I try to look for him. Having him there puts a smile on your face, having your ex-teammate and someone that youâve looked up to the last couple of years.â
That round 1 game this year was also Sweidâs first for the Cannons after he had his bottom-age season in 2024 wiped out by an ACL injury.
That injury occurred in the third quarter of an under-16 Grand Final for Pascoe Vale in August 2023, which the Panthers lost to a Tom McGuane-spearheaded Keilor.
âI had surgery a couple of weeks later on September 12th and had a 10 month rehab after that,â Sweid said.
The top AFL Draft prospects reveal who they would take with the No. 1 pick in 2025.
âMentally, it was tough to have great mates like Huss, (Cooper) Duff-Tytler, McGuane, good mates who I grew up with, perform at a high level and believing that youâre on their level and you can do what theyâre doing.
âIt was mentally tough not being out there, having to watch from the sidelines and see all your mates do well. You sort of feel left out, left alone. But Iâm grateful for the opportunity in my top-age year.â
El Achkar provided support to his good mate during the lay-off and was confident all along that Sweid would bounce back â as he did this year.
âJust seeing where he came from after an ACL injury, Iâm just so happy for him,â El Achkar said.
âI had an interview at the start of the year and they asked me who would have a big year and I said âAdamâ. Just seeing how hard he worked in pre-season and training with him, I knew he was going to be good.â
Both Sweid and El Achkar are viewed as potential top-30 picks in the draft, with both having impressed for the Cannons, Vic Metro and Essendon at VFL level this year.
The dream has long been to join the Bombers together and the pair can almost taste that now.
âI think thereâs no better story than that, to be honest, playing with your best mate who you grew up with,â Sweid said.
âWeâre teenagers. When weâre driving, we have a lot of chats about how our future could look. If we both go to Essendon as NGA picks and grow up living out our dream together, that will be surreal.â
Both Sweid and El Achkarâs father were born in Lebanon,
They have the same dad! What are the odds of that ![]()
The article DID say they were âlike brothersâ, so it checks out.
Iâve heard of a player called âTwo Dadsâ.
Two players called âOne Dadâ is gunna be different.
Thank god our academy saved them from Rugby.
Just out of interest - have we come out and declared that weâll be matching bids on Adam and Huss? Have they officially nominated us? Just read that Harry Dean has nominated Carlton and theyâll be matching bids.
If we havenât when is the deadline for this?
Do NGA linked players need to nominate? I thought it was inferred via the NGA.
Whereas F/S do need to nominate prior to the draft (hence Harry Dean).
have we come out and declared that weâll be matching bids on Adam and Huss?
I donât think this is a thing. And itâs probably not a great strategy to commit to anything given the modern fluidity of draft pick and player bidding.
Yeah, NGA nominate by joining the NGA. Teams do have to nominate NGA players, but the list of nominations typically doesnât get published anywhere because it doesnât mean anything to their draft chances.
