Other UK Football - 'Don't want to be in the EPL anyway..'

Incredible. I thought I was the only one.

How do you see us going this season?

Probably good enough just to miss the playoffs.
I can't claim to know too much. I don't go to the effort to watch any championship coverage. So I'm a pretty rubbish supporter.

Don't worry it's so much effort to get Championship coverage. I have barely any knowledge beyond Ipswich. The past few seasons it's gotten to December and I've looked at the full league table and been totally surprised at the position of some teams.

I think we'll finish somewhere between 8th to 16th. Apart from the top 2 or 3 and the bottom 2 or 3, the Championship is always much of a muchness. Very fine lines between a playoff push and a relegation battle

The bugger hadn't even heard of Mick Mills and Kevin Beattie when I quizzed him. I think back in the 70s, they had a shortarse keeper who may have gone to Man U.

He'd only heard of George Burley as a manager. Buggered if I can remember any other Ipswich players.
Ah yes Paul Cooper! Had an amazing record as a penalty saver too.

The names from our great 70's and 80's teams under Bobby Robson should be required knowledge for any Ipswich fan! Cooper, Mills, Burley, Beattie, Butcher, Osman, Hunter, Whymark, Muhren, Thijssen, Wark, Mariner, Brazil, Gates..

Little known fact: Ipswich would have won the First Division in 1974/75 if the rules awarded 3pts for a win instead of 2pts. I think that is the only season where the winner would have been different under the 3pts for a win rule.
A few there I should have remembered like Butcher, Osman, Whymark, Thyssen, Mariner and Brazil.

Ipswich down 1-0 to Reading.

bad loss for the Wolves to another newly promoted club Rotherham 1-0 on the weekend after have 70% of the possession.

Fulham mid week and Cardiff coming up on the weekend should be great tests.

Leeds on the board with a 1-0 win over Middlesbrough.

Then a typically woeful midweek performance against Brighton.

Massive game on tonight. It's the Old Farm Derby! Ipswich vs Norwich.

What time is it on?
When was the last East Anglia Derby 2010 or 2011?

On now.

Last one was 2010/11. Norwich won 4-1 at Ipswich then 5-1 at home. Embarassing stuff for Ipswich

No idea what to expect from Forest this season. Lost some good players, not sure what Pearce will do as manager.

Top of the league at the min.

I've noticed that the the English Championship is telecast on a station called Setanta which you pay for monthly. Does anyone know if the normal Foxtel sports coverage has shows that wrap up the Championship weekend results - ie. a one hour show?

I remember being able to watch a 1/2 hour or 1 hour highlights show on the second division on SBS back in the day.. wondering how everyone/anyone else is able to get any type of coverage?

They used to but it disappeared when Setanta picked up the broadcast rights.

I'm pretty sure Setanta is $19pm.. i guess over 6 months that is only $114.

If you are football mad Setanta is the best $19/month you will ever spend.

Have had it for years and its awesome.

Has the English Championship aswell as L1 and L2 with weekly wrap ups aswell.

Also has live Bundesliga and SPL aswell as having the Europa Cup and Capital One cup for thosr intetested. Real good coverage of South American football aswell.

And if you are into Rugby, has the best 6 nation and Internationals coverage bar none.

Unfortunately over the last couple of years they have lost the rights to a few other European football leagues

I also endorse Setanta.

Got it for the FA Cup a few years back after ESPN lost the rights for a season or 2, haven’t turned it off since.

Comes into it’s own when day light savings kicks in and the only live Sunday night football at a reasonable hour you can get is SPL on Setanta. The quality is ■■■■■ but it’s surprisingly quick and attacking to watch.

Nice start by the Wolves this year. Sitting 3rd at 4-1 and playing some more notable sides - Blackburn their latest victim falling 3-1.

I'm not sure what time in the season you should start getting excited (its usually always at a time that is way too early), but couldn't be happier after being promoted.

Big game coming up against Derby. We started last season very well too, so not getting any expectations up just yet. Pearce has the scoring power going better than I expected though. A nice start. A very very long way to go.

1-1 Draw at Birmingham for Leeds last night, can hardly recognise the squad from the one we had last year, which is probably a good thing but will take a little while to settle. However unlikely if we're there abouts at Christmas hopefully might be able to push on.

2-0 victory for Ipswich last night against Millwall. Good to get back to some winning form.
