Other UK Football - 'Don't want to be in the EPL anyway..'

If Boro get a win or even a couple of draws out of the next couple (Norwich & Wolves) - we slapped Norwich 4-0 last time - we should be able to slot into 2nd, with Brighton & Fulham the last 2.

Meanwhile Ipswich Town continue to live by the byline of this thread - 8th place and 8 points behind 6th place Sheffield Wednesday.

Somehow I don’t think they’ll be able to close the gap, what with having one game remaining.

But hey, they’ve found their level - longest serving team in the Championship, since 2002.

Ipswich are the Richmond of the Championship.

If they’re not getting knocked out early in the playoffs, they normally just miss out on them each season.

Seventhwich Town.

Been avoiding saying much in here, Leeds one point off bottom, just outside relegation. Just need to avoid that damn drop.

Big win this morning.

happy with the overnight results. Well done Leeds - some nice breathing space now.
Hopefully the Wolves and Norwich can win as it will only tighten the top 8… it could become a real stoush this year

Ipswich go down to Brighton overnight to bring the top eight even closer together. Norwich host Brentford on Saturday. If they and the Wolves get up the top 8 will be split by just 5 points.

interesting with Brighton and Leeds winning as well - puts abit of pressure on the bottom three now.

Leeds starting to creep up the table. Good win this morning. Massive game on Saturday.

They are within a game of up to 6 sides Notts Forest result permitting. Reading knocked off Wolves at Molineux on the weekend and were in some handy form - it was a good win.

Great competition at the head of the table with 1 point separating the top 3 sides and the top eight drawn to play each other over the coming weeks.

Amazing… Leeds results have improved considerably since Cellino was suspended as Chairman. Maybe a bloke with a clue (ie. the manager) has started picking the team? Luke Murphy didn’t get a look in before christmas and has been our best since scoring 3 in the last few weeks as a CM. Praying the owner gets the hint that maybe he should keep his nose out of the professionals work however unlikely that might be.

Fascinating finish to the Championship coming up. Any predictions? Everytime I try, things tighten up further… Norwich making a big push now and picked up Graham Dorrans yesterday to further strengthen their squad. Automatic promotion is wide open…

My picks for the top2?..its between Derby, Norwich and Middlesbrough for mine. I’m struggling to split them though.

Predictions are 78 points may be needed to make playoff places this year… just amazing.

This weeks fixtures are juicy with Middlesbrough (who drew 1-1 with Birmingham last night playing with 10 men) playing an in form Leeds.

Other interesing fixtures…

Bournemouth at Brentford
Norwich at Watford
Sheffield at Derby
Rotherham at Wolves
Bolton at Notts Forest
Reading at Ipswich
Blackpool at Bolton

Optimism back at Leeds for the moment, the form, spirit and just downright talent of the young blokes coming through together from the academy is just amazing. Finally sort out the off field stuff in the next 6 months or so and we’ll go up next year mark my words.

As for this year, hoping Borough and Derby go up with Watford through the playoffs.

2 minutes in Leeds up 1 nil up over top of the table Middlesbrough!

Only 88 minutes to go to hold on

Survived the first half! 45 minutes to hold on, could almost have gone 2-0 up just before half time but will make do with any lead at this stage!

Boro are backing up from a midweek game… Looking good with just over a half hour to go.

Wow. Nice win by Leeds. The league tightens up even more now

FFS Boro you had 1 job to do!

Some big results over the weekend with Ipswich going down to Reading, Bournemouth losing to Brentford and Norwich towelling up Watford. Derby were also lucky coming from behind twice against a 10 man Sheffield Wednesday. And of course Middlesbrough going down to Leeds.

Again, everything just getting closer at the top, a lot of teams mid table finding form now and taking the points over the top teams. Realistically everyone from 7th are still a chance for automatic promotion which is huge. Not sure how low i’d go looking for playoff potentials after Wolves. Teams mid table are pulling off some big victories though … there is always one bolter

I want brentford to go up and turn over Chelsea.

Russell Crowe shows interest in buying stake in struggling Championship side Leeds United.

THE tantalising possibility of Leeds United fan and Oscar-winning actor Russell Crowe buying into the ailing English football giants is finding huge favour with the club’s supporters.

The 50-year-old New Zealand-born star — who won the best actor Oscar in 2000 for a mesmerising and combative performance in Gladiator — has received backing from an influential party in the form of the working group that is supporting fan ownership, of the second tier club, Leeds Fans LLP.

This comes after Crowe, who was also nominated for Best Actor Oscars for The Insider (1999) and A Beautiful Mind (2001), tweeted “Anybody else think this is a good idea?” in response to a Leeds fan’s plea for him to buy the club he has supported since their glory days in the 1970s under Don Revie.

Three-time English champions Leeds are presently 14th in The Championship and 18 points adrift of the playoff places which sees four teams contest the third and final promotion spot for the Premier League.

The LLP were one of many to reply to his tweet — most of them positive. LLP asked him for advice on fans taking over a club as he has previous experience having become co-owner of the freshly crowned world club champions South Sydney Rabbitohs, the Australian rugby league side who were bottom of the pile when he and an Australian businessman bought 75% of the club in 2006.

LLP has been aware of Crowe’s interest for some time and a spokesperson told Press Association Sport: “Russell’s a big Leeds supporter, he has a background in fan ownership and we’d love for him to work with us on fan ownership at Leeds United.”

Crowe, who has among other roles played Noah and Robin Hood, suggested the members of LLP watch a program on the takeover of the Rabbitohs and offered further advice.

“There has to be one voice that sets the tone,” said Crowe, who has sport running through his veins as cousins Martin and Jeff Crowe both captained the New Zealand cricket team.

“Every thought and every decision has to be about success on the field.”

Crowe missed Sunday’s Oscars ceremony in Los Angeles, preferring instead to watch his Rabbitohs sweep aside St Helens 39-0 at the English champions.
In order for his or any other potential suitor’s interest to go any further, though, they have to contend with Leeds’ unpredictable Italian president Massimo Cellino.

The 58-year-old Italian has sold his personal stake in Eleonora Sport — the company he setup to buy Leeds a year ago — in order to independently appeal his Football League disqualification after failing its owners’ and directors’ test following a tax evasion conviction.

His ban expires on April 10 but Cellino — a notorious hirer and firer of managers who is already on his fourth at Leeds since he was originally cleared to buy the club in April — said on Tuesday he would not be returning to office while he tries to clear his name, giving rise to speculation he could be about to sell up.
