I watched Logan’s Run at my high school during the pre-Christmas dead fortnight.
By gosh it was dull.
And you can’t even get some adults to sit through 2001 (although I’m a big fan) let alone kids.
I’ll give you Planet of the Apes.

2001- look it’s polarising, I get that. But it’s a brilliant expansion of the short story, The Sentinal. If people don’t want to go there, it;s more a reflection on the “Transformers” generation who want popcorn thoughtless Michael Bay action flicks with CGI in abundance. Sometimes good things are worth the wait.

I’m torn between being affronted by snobbery or anti-intellectualism.
It’s weird defending Star Wars, Bueller and Deadpool, and 2001, The Godfather and probably Citizen Kane by the time this thread is over.

actually fell asleep. & that rarely happens.
Had to be the 100th time I’d watched a film with the same exact plot.

Up to 6 months ago I’d have agreed with you. But during covid I watched about a dozen of them with my kids, and actually enjoyed them.

It depends on how you define an adventure story, but the core of 2001 is an adventure story for me. Is the computer really what it seems to be? Will it get the astronaut before the astronaut gets it?
It’s the Dawn of Man stuff at the beginning and the light show at the end that are craap. The main section on the spaceship is fantastic.
