Was that hyped? I watched it on a flight once and really struggled to get through it.
I could go on, a lot, but I’ve never actually seen any Twilight, apart from understanding it was the very antithesis of empowerment.
lot of posts in here talking about movies that were never really rated by anyone, let alone overrated
someone once told me in bruges was one of the funniest movies they’ve ever seen. i watched it, and i haven’t been able to lend credibility to anything that person has said ever since.
Thoughts on bird man?
Argo.
That movie was hyped like a mother-■■■■■■. Watchable 7/10, but not amazing…
I like it. It’s still probably overrated, though. Great cinematography and I thought the story was pretty engaging. I don’t think it would have been quite as good if Michael Keaton wasn’t the main character.
Kinda weird that you need to know a little bit about the real-world actor to get the most out of the movie, I’ll admit.
I’d have #1 in my top 10 movies, it’s a classic IMO
Load of utterly pretentious craap. Featuring one of the worst acting performances of all time by Michael Keating. He’s a good comic actor. He’s a hopeless dramatic actor.
I thought Birdman was very good. Not great, but very good.
And importantly, for some reason I saw a lot of Oscar nominated films that year, I enjoyed it more than The Imitation Game, Sniper and the Hawking biopic. I’m sure there were others. So, yeah. Did it deserve best film?
Probably not.
Did it deserve it more than those films?
Probably.
Oooooh, now I think about it I’d prefer Whiplash to have won.
Uninteresting fact: The screenplay is held in very high regard and used as a study text for students.
I read a theory that the Japanese were working on the basis that the netting would be used to deliver large numbers of soldiers into their line of fire. So was ideal for killing troops trying to take the ridge. Which happened a lot. They wouldn’t waste ammo on one or two stragglers, but would fire massively once a force came up. Whatever the reason, while the net and cliff height is exaggerated, it’s effectively a true story. Can’t find it now but I once saw a pic of the net. While it was exaggerated for height in the film, it depicted the scenario well enough.

I do remember the hype around that movie being massive. I only watched it this year. Without any hubris surrounding the movie I found it thoroughly enjoyable and genuinely tense.
Was not at all funny. I really liked it though.
Glad I’m not the only one that feels that way about The Big Lebowski. It’s not a crap movie. I just don’t get the hype.
There’s media and industry generated hype and there’s cult followings. Lebowski is the latter.
How do we feel about Fight Club?
I’m a yes.
Ferris Buellers Day Off
Yeah, its kind of fun. Classic? No.
The Revenant
Classic for its genre, surely?
Deadpool did a parody 30+ years later and we were all just expected to get the reference.
Pretty sure that makes it a classic.
