Hi Westy, I bought the 10 at a great price but after a couple days use I returned it as it was overheating and turning itself off after about 10min of solid use, I also found the battery life to be pretty underwhelming.
How’s the 360 Horizon lock on the 11 ? I see that comes standard with no mods.

After a bit of research, the DJI Action 4 looks like a pretty good option and it’s in a good price bracket.

Horizon lock is amazing. You have to be mindful that between horizon lock and stabilisation it can completely remove the action/drama from a clip because it does it so well (you can turn horizon lock off though). My previous GoPro was a 3, so everything about the 11 has hugely improved as you would expect. Battery life is pretty good I think (depending on your perspective I suppose), however I do always find it lacking when taking time-lapse clips, like sunrise/set or startrails overnight. I can’t compare it to the competition, but am extremely happy with mine.

I own both the 11 and the 12.

Just a minor gripe on the 11.
If you’re using the App to control the recording functions, and more importantly use your phone screen to properly frame and expose your shot (exposure especially important when using ND’s), the preview screen disappears once you hit record.
This only happens on the 11, and was corrected on the 12.

Image quality in well lit situations is pretty friggin terrific on both for the price, and stabilisation is getting to impressive levels on these consumer devices.

They are more than decent for time lapses, long exposure, and night lapses, though you need to know how to alter the settings appropriately !

Edit…

I’ve posted Steel Wool Light Trails a number of times over the years in this thread.
They were all taken on a GoPro 4 with just the camera and a tripod.
Just an example of what these little Action Cams are capable of outside of their video capabilties.

Pretty sure I posted this in September.
Had to remove about 5 helicopters in the sky, and move the sliders a little in post.

Really need to get myself a half decent camera that can should in RAW.

Im watching the superbowl, but in really watching the photographers and what gear they all use :stuck_out_tongue:

Made up a printed photo album for my son’s 21st. Varying quality with a lot of phone snaps.
It’s low res, but I quite like this one.

Ps horizon is a couple of degrees out!

Good on you @Clone_Hirdy .
He looks like he belongs up here in Qld with the other giant bugs and insects that reside locally.
He’s magnificent.
