I find talking politics on Blitz is interesting because Blitz DOES cut across social/regional/income/religion/whatever groups. In our everyday lives we have a tendency to associate with people with similar views and from similar backgrounds to ours, whether because of the nature of our workplaces, the friendship groups we formed as we grew up, the parents at our kids' schools, the people we follow on twitter or whatever who we picked to follow cos we agree with them, etc etc.Footy cuts across that. I think itās healthy to associate with people whose opinions differ from your own, stops you getting completely caught in the echo chamber.
Of course, thatās how it works in theory. In practise it seems us greenie types are heavily overrepresented on this thread and we donāt really get many libs etc posting here at all.
I havenāt been here for long but the problem is that Iāve found that any lib people posting here are bullied and heaped with vitriol. Thereās zero tolerance here and all hostility so i can understand perfectly the way Chris feels for instance. I for one would like to hear other peopleās opinions, no matter how ridiculous they may seem and Iām disgusted the way people react to views different from their own even though these posters share the same ideological ground as me.

HM, I hear what you say, but when I go to the footy, I want to watch it, barrack, cheer, and I want to sing with the grog squad, I dont want to talk politics. Its the last thing I want to talk about when I am at the footy. I dont think about work, personal business problems or anything else. Its recreation, its like a holiday.

I have argued this with JBomber who sees my parallels between footy and politics are absurd. To me both are teams that I support, and in spite of everything that happens this will never waver.

As to the silos, maybe if I put it this way. Out of the people who might be candidates for your friendship, one in 3 might be Liberal voters, and yet none of your friends appear to be Liberal voters. I conclude that you probably live, or have lived a life in a silo centred around politics and selected your friends only from those interested in your side of politics.
But life is not just about politics and this is the very reason why party politicians in Canberra and Spring street get to be out of touch with normal people. They need to get out more.

Now that the Coalition has won the election, they need to take back the ascendancy. One of the best tricks is to grab some of the ( soft) key opposition policies and immediately propose them, and claim them as their own.
For instance the Government needs to immediately move a motion to change the law to allow same sex marriage, otherwise this issue will just bubble and ferment for the first part of the governments term, wasting quite a lot of what little political capital the Coalition has left.

Turnbull was so desperate to become PM that he agreed to not to dismantle A Abbottās policy ramshackle in order to win the support of his people.
