It’s bordering on criminal how open port left the corridor. Unlike the tigers a couple of weeks ago they took us lightly and didn’t set the ground up well.

That said that was the best use of handball to clear a contest that I’ve seen from an essendon ever. Fantastic to see.

I’m not going to be full lid off until we beat a good side who jams the corridor shut. We haven’t done it yet.

Sydney will be a good test next week but we are kidding ourselves if we think we’ll just roll over the likes of the saints and norf in the second half half of the year. At least one of those games will be an arm wrestle with a clogged up corridor.

Still, its impossible not to be excited by our best football and last night was our most sustained exhibition of it. We can legitimately lay claim to having one of the best forward groups in the comp which is outstanding when you consider where we’ve come from and how quickly it’s come together.

100% agree with this. Carlton, Richmond and Melbourne all blocked the corridor and played a spare that we continued to dump on all game when we couldn’t move the ball they way we wanted. Sydney is a great test for us, it will be a far more conjested and contested game, we need to show we can win when we don’t have the room to move. The most impressive part of our win was our hands in congestion, as someone said previously when we play really well it reminds a Geelong 2008/9. Very excited about what we can bring in the second half and starting to just allow myself to ponder the F word.

So, changes. The two least strong performers were Myers and Howlett. Parish should be recovered and Langford is still pushing.

After working night shift on Sat night I’ve finally watched the replay. Some notes that have probably been mentioned but I’ll put them out there anyway.

1: Best umpired game I’ve seen in a long time.
2: Some of Hurley’s bullet passes were in…sane!
3: Hartley and Stewart have only played 20 something games each. Hartley only 7 odd for this year and leads the comp in spoils. Give them some slack when they’re not on. But they were both massive this game.

And lastly…Conor…omfg! If the rest of his career follows this form we are in for one hell of a ride.

There was a play where the port players pretty much waltzed around him (it was easier to see at the ground on the member’s wing than on TV), and he just strolled after him.

Completely wrong footed by an odd bounce from a spilled mark, which went straight into Wingard’s lap. Did well to lay a finger on him IMO. Never in the chase. Not sure it had anything to do with effort.

Rewatched, so did a Gleeson watch. In the Gleeson thread. I disagree on his ability to corral, but will admit that I got the lack of effort wrong. After breezing past Gleeson Wingard kicks almost immediately so no ability to chase him.

Just watched the replay. Some of the handballing in close to relase a player through the corridor was amazing. Some of the best I have seen and reminded me of Geelong during their premiership era. It was not port were bad pressuring it was just lightning quick handball and brilliant overlap run.

Diesel seems to have helped our handball a lot.
