I was very worried about our smaller mids going up against the big bodied mids of Carlton, but our smaller mids outfought them all night

While playing finals wasn’t really part of the expectations this year, I hope we do in order to see just how close we are to being a finals contender.

Another thing I’ve noticed rewatching the game (I recorded both the 7 and fox footy coverage).

On 7, they showed the teams in the rooms at half time.

Carlton midfield group sitting in the circle having a chat. Nothing direct or appearing to be too meaningful (coach was speaking to one player specifically).

Pan to the Essendon room, backline sitting in the circle. Caracella joins with the iPad and footage to review with all the players gathering around to obviously review key points from the first half. Reid standing with the group to watch and listen too.

The investment to develop and teach our players is becoming more and more apparent.

Feels and looks like a different side. But it’s better to know what this year’s development amounts to. So if we do get flogged then so be it. We learn from it.

It’s not a certainty that we ‘limp into finals.’
We’ve banked eight wins.
We have ten games left.
Eight of those games are against teams below us on the ladder.

And regardless of how many wins we actually finish up with, if we beat Collingwood in the last round, that sure as hell wouldn’t be limping.

Its baffling how ■■■■ they are up forward with 2 coleman medallists.

Their midfield is slow and doesn’t tackle and their backline is horrendous, especially when Wietering is made accountable for a key match up.

Been a while since Ive heard the whole top deck of the stadium chanting like a couple of times last night, usually its us copping it against Collingwood.

Its a proper flex when you get it going and its an away game.

If we knock off Freo you wonder how many we could get to the game against Port at the G on a Saturday night.

Would give 60,000 a fair shake.

Watching the second half just now Jake was a wrecking ball in alot of contests. Didn’t notice it as much at the ground but he is not doing as much of the flashy stuff but is having a big influence. Seems to be focused and driven more than in previous years.

Yep. Im loving Jake’s footy atm - he’s invested in doing the team things and also loving watching the comraderie like acknowledging things like Menzies effort in halving the contest and gaining territory and giving Flip a bit of cheek after last weeks shank

Knights was at least willing to try move on a bunch of old timers and develop the next generation.

His gameplan was severely flawed (but when it worked it looked great) though. Plus he had to follow Sheedy with Hird breathing over his shoulder - a bit doomed to fail in that situation.
