Scoreboard flatterd us in the end
I was dreading that game, so I’m pretty relieved with the outcome and proud of the way we hung in there. We’re a much more resilient team than we have been over the last few years. Just need a bit more polish.
They didnt do the same ■■■■ last year to us though, they beat us by almost triple the amount they did today.
The 4 day break isnt an excuse, its a legitimate handicap.
I know it sucks to always come up short and have this outlook, but I think comparing todays effort and result to the past definitely shows we are heading in the right direction.
How can you not have the team ready to go from the first bounce what the ■■■■ do they do during the week
I disagree.
We matched them from the 20 min mark of the 1st onwards.
I don’t how you address an issue like starting poorly but Brad you gotta work it out
Positives:
Weideman
Fighting it out to the end
Negatives:
Another poor start
Costly turnovers going inside the corridor and exiting d50
Rucks poor second week running
Midfield monstered
What a waste of a lovely Sunday arvo
After the last qtr that we dished up on Anzac Day. You would think the players would be fired up to make amends.
Nope, we were absolutely pathetic
Multiple players completely squibbed contests a Caldwell and Martin with 2 of the worst ones I have seen in a long time
Our skills are absolutely woeful
There was a lot to like about that.
We didn’t give up.
We kicked 16 8 which is not a bad effort.
Stringer was better than I expected after 6 day break
Wiederman persisted and kicked well.
Tippa played a great cameo.
Some passes were exceptional, a lot of handball chains were effective.
Unfortunately with a team like Geelong as soon as you make a mistake they punish you.
There were some real howlers but we will learn from those.
I think out progress is evident and by seasons end we will be a lot better team than we are now.
For a moment in that third quarter, we looked like a genuinely good team. The fatal skill errors then came flooding back as soon as one mistake gifted Geelong a goal and the momentum.
For most of the day our skills were horrid and we looked knackered. Pleasing that we kept it somewhat respectable because the first 15 mins looked like the biggest loss in the club’s history was coming right up.
What ever makes you happy i guess.
So the key thing I got out of that, is that we are undersized, which we all knew about long before this game. I am not sure who is going to be that big key defender who can take on brutes like Hawkins. Lav was a big loss, as although shorter, he is very strong, and at least would have given Hawkins some competition. Reid is tall but not strong (as yet anyway). In the future he will be good on the King brothers, etc. Stewart I have my doubts his body will stand up.
So do we poach a big key defender from another club? We really did fail to replace Hooker adequately IMHO. Wonder who we could get.
Why do people keep saying we had a 4 day break?
Some really bad skills but also some really dumb decisions. Both of which we had been really good at mimising so far this year.
Langford hack kicks out of defence with easy handballs. Parish long bombs to no one I50. Redman, who is prone to these games, repeatedly turning it over by foot. Mass, who is meant to be our best kick, just making some dumb decisions.
But also some really good, Weid was great, Walla showed signs, Hobbs was promising and Stringer was BOG for me after Hawkins no matter how much smoke the commentators blow up Dangers ■■■■. Effort was good but we just got jumped by a far more experience, well drilled and composed side. Not a disaster.
give it a rest for a week Robbo for gods sake
i reckon that is typical of teams with the shorter break to start slower… will be interested to see how collingwood starts
exaggerating makes the excuse more valid
My favourite play was when duhram held it up for 10 seconds allowing Geelong to run back and setup and the kick it straight to Stewart.
Reckon it wont effect them. differnce between pies and essendon is they turn up anywhere, any time attitude
Couldn’t bare watching after last week, but good to see we didn’t get thrashed I suppose
Most disappointing thing, when the ball was bounced to start the game, our team was still in Tullamarine. All over, red rover, 20 minutes in.
