Took the young fella (6) to the open training session today and he had a a great time. He knows that a few of the players are out injured for the year 
but got to see some of his favorites up close (Joe, BJ, Zaka), something we normally do not get the chance to do living in Qld. Got his footy signed by a heap of the players and Woosher and Harvs. New second favorite player…TIPPA!!!

I know it’s been a complete clusterfcuk for the past few years Cy, but to go watch the Don’s with your 4yr old son … for I’m assuming his 1st time?? It’s a no brainer for mine.
He has no clue about the nightmare that’s transpired. Instead of thinking he thinks like you (?), you should try to see it all through his eyes, & forget about all the drama. It’s your team, & they’re in your backyard on a rare occasion.

Game Day has arrived and I am pretty pumped. I will be very disappointed if we get thumped today. Not sure we have enough to squeeze past the Suns but this team looks quite strong on paper and should be able to match it on the park.
The Suns forward line is still a big work in process and the loss of Dixon will hurt for them. Their midfield still has question marks with Gaz clearly the best player in the league but unable to find consistency with his body for 2 seasons now. Our biggest worry since ‘that day’ has been our key defensive posts which went from our AA strength to nothing. I’m not sure that Brown and Ambrose are going to get the job done and there will need to be a strong commitment from our midfield to get back and crowd the D50.
My second biggest concern is the lack of quality tall help for JD up forward. Grimley started with a bang and then went quiet but still acted as a foil for Joey, allowing him to move further up the ground. I’m really not understanding the plan with having zero support up there. If JD goes up the ground to act as a conduit then he will turn around and find nothing to kick to over and over. This then puts a lot of pressure on the resting ruck to provide a forward option. I’m keen to see how it goes, but I strongly suspect it will look exactly like last year (and before) with a very very very lacklustre scoring process. I would add that this isn’t ‘ban’ related but more an ongoing issue with our forward structure.
All the concerns aside, I am really looking forward to seeing Parish debut… I think it will be the start of a big career. Walla is clearly a cult figure both on here and in general, and today is the day to see if he can fulfill the hype and deliver some real x-factor to the team. WIth all the Saga BS it has gone largely unnoticed that we picked up a huge FA signing in Loony last year. This signing was a key plank in our structure and I really believed that we would be seeing a Loony/Smack combo as the norm irrespective of other issues. So I am very keen to see how they complement each other and whether that addresses some of our centre work.
I expect a Gold Coast win by around 20 points, I hope/pray/wish for a Bombers win by 10.

I think the plan at this point is to have Smack play as a second tall and pinch hit in the ruck - like Joey was doing last year. Looney can ruck a whole game, well he usually would be able to. There might be a few question around his fitness due to his interrupted preseason, but I think the coaches have managed it well and we will see Looney rucking the majority of the game with Smack (and hopefully not JD) coming in only when Looney needs a rest on the bench.
I really like Smack as the almost permanent second tall, he and Joey both possess excellent contested marking and almost uncanny ground-ball skills. It’s just a matter of them being able to work together effectively.

Since the verdict came down i really havent been able to muster any sort of excitement about this season. Now that game day is here im starting to get pretty pumped up. I know by game tme i will be shouting all sorts of abuse at the tv and throwing stuff around the room.
