Round 1 - Ess v Hawks - Sunday 19th March 2023 - 3.20pm @ the G - the buildup

Baldwin is stronger, tougher and showing greater improvement than Jones.
Weideman is in before Jones.
I’m a Jones fan but he needs a year in VFL.

depends how we win.

limp over the line against spoon contenders Hawks won’t inspire me with much confidence.

remember in 2020 we got on a roll early then the McKenna drama, likely cost us a win over dees. And had to play the match later in the year.

plus missing the match took away momentum against blues and lost that narrowly.

then the wheels well and truly fell off by mid season.

I’m looking forward unlike some of the negative nellies here, to the game.
I want to see the younger guys step up and signs our tackling, sheparding and defensive one percenters have improved.
i want to see us be more ruthless when we get i front
i want us to chase and run hard both ways
i want us to take an extra microsecond before we kick
i don’t want much!!

Club hasn’t demonstrated anything that counters the negative commentary by many of us. Of course we’d all like to see the above, but we’ve been asking for that for 15 years, it’s tiresome.

Ultmately, the supporters want success more than the actual club. I’d welcome the players and club proving me wrong.

A mentally fragile club. A couple of things out of balance they fall in a heap and throw a pity party.

Ironically i was gonna post something about this. you generally mimic pretty closely nino’s reactions in those 2 threads you mention, yet i can guarantee you only one poster is going to get the ■■■■ canned out of him for being that way.

thats not a crack at you , just blitz.

not a bad approach to focus during matches on what we’re doing technically rather than the scoreboard - given it’s rebuilding phase and all that and we are going to have periods of suckiness

I’d agree. I don’t ■■■■ on @Finding_Nino

, you’re likely not going to get any of that, so why exactly are you looking forward to well not seeing it ?

It is tiresome. I’ve got to the point where I’d just like a consistent performance across 4 quarters let alone across a few matches.

And I’m not too bullish about even that happening :joy:

Reckon only a few on here would be happy the others will upset that we wont get a top 5 pick

This exact time next week is going to be very, very interesting…

Jubilation or misery? Or both?

I’m excited but at the same time worried about what might happen.

I’m excited to see what sort of stamp Scott has put on the team.

We desperately need to win round 1. For a few reasons

Hawthorn suck, so we should be beating them.

Who doesn’t love to see their team win, and it will also create a bit off buzz around this place.

Sick of going to away games at the MCG at seeing us lose.

For me, the big focus will be on how the senior players perform. Normally our young guys perform well, but the senior players are the inconsistent ones.
