FINALLY, the success we’ve all been craving - we finish 2 positions above the afl’s own club.
ANNOUNCE WATCHALONG INSTEAD
This has zero integrity. The deadest of dead rubbers after the season has finished with either nothing or a better draft pick up for grabs.
Or one team is in finals and has to play a meaningless match while their opponent rests. You simply play your worst 22.
You just can’t schedule it then on the least likely scenario that the teams are 8th and 9th and equal on points.
The obvious answer is take advantage of both Essendon and Gold Coast playing in south east Queensland round 12.
The below solution gives us both four day breaks around the rescheduled match but without additional travel. Better than a joke game after the season.
Geelong get to bring their bye forward - better than playing 15 on the trot. Round 16 is floating, so easy to schedule our game then.
Round 12
Bris v Ess, Gabba, Thurs 29 May 7:30pm
GC v Freo, Carrara, Sat 31 May 1:20pm
Shift Gold Coast to Thursday 4:30pm. Double header for Foxtel. Honestly, who gives a a ■■■■ about this game.
Replacement game
Tuesday 3 June: Gold Coast v Essendon at Carrara.
Round 13
Shift Geelong v Gold Coast from Saturday 7 June to Sunday 8 June.
Carlton v Essendon Sunday 8 June unchanged.
Round 14
Gold Coast keep their scheduled bye.
Essendon v Geelong fixtured to play Saturday. Both also have the bye round 16. Swap their bye to round 14 then play round 16 which is already a floating fixture round.
Can’t chatGPT work this ■■■■ out?
BTW I don’t mind that.(Brisbane then Gold Coast as an option). I’m sure it’s on the table
The AFL could have packed everyone up and sent the 4 teams to Tasmania and played a double header, integrity of fixture saved.
Nah instead we have a mess, one team will get screwed out of it
Maybe it will put to bed the utterly ludicrous round 0 concept. Play a full round one, stop ■■■■■■■ around
Like seriously, how do you not schedule this stupid opening round opponents to the same bye?
legit ■■■■■■■■ of the highest order run this league
I have a slightly left field idea - can we just call it a draw? Both teams are allocated 2 premiership points and the AFL lose some $$
I certainly didn’t think that when I first read the fixture.
They will hold off deciding with the hope one or both teams are in finals contention.
If so they will play it in the bye before the finals to ease in an idea of a wildcard finals game in that spot in future years.
Hopefully at least one team will prefer to lose to get a better opponent/a home final. They’ll have a week to work out the exact score that works for them.
Broadcasters want a game they paid for. GC would expect to get 4 pts from a home game, so they won’t want to give that up. Only ones happy with sharing the points would be us.
For a team looking towards the future, I’d risk 2 points for an opportunity of an extra game too.
If we’re sitting 11th at the end of the season and can plonk some kids in the team for a debut it’s worth it.
Not bad in theory but you left out the fact GC play on the Sunday of Round 11 which would mean it’d be 4 games in 14 days…that ain’t gonna happen
Its bad luck but all of this could have been avoided if they didnt have this stupid round zero crap
Smart. Pre-finals bye sucks. If either/both are not in the finals mix, send everyone in for surgery.
Finishing 11th is a wank of a season.
You didn’t exactly get my point, and if we get the development in the right players done well and set ourselves up for the future, along with a top 10 draft pick how is that a wank?
