There’s flaws in every option but I think after round 24 is the best case result for us.
Will be an absolute fizz if it’s a dead rubber and if not a dead rubber it would suck to be a team who’s in finals limbo after round 24 as they have to wait for the result of our game.

The solution is obvious. We should play the game in the pre-finals bye. If we finish top 2 on the ladder and win the 1st Final then we get a week off anyway.

What about scheduling a standalone round for the two games - earlier than round 24
All proceeds too cyclone relief.
At a suitable time in the season. Would mean pushing out all the rounds by a week or soem re-jigging but surely they have a program for that

I agree. They’ll probably fixture it so that we play FC either on a Thursday or Friday night R24, then the GC fixture will be a match on Thursday or Friday night the week of the pre-finals bye. Still means that if either (or both) of us make finals, we still have a decent enough break leading into that.

I assume it effectively becomes part of the pre-finals bye. I actually think this is the best option, rather than squeezing us into another week

Our ladder position is going to be deceiving all ■■■■■■■ year as we have played 1 less game than the other teams for a lot of it.
It’s a deep list of talking heads I cannot stand in football but this sanctimonious, effete, weasel is right up there.

Except it will be a standalone game to see if we can finish 14th or 15th. Gold Coast can finish as high as 9th

There’s a chance this becomes a trial run for “WILD CARD ROUND” and then the AFL can introduce more stupidity into the scheduling next year

If we don’t get in the top eight, I think this season is a waste, and therefore a wank.
If the afl had have been on the front foot.
Gold Coast could be playing west coast away this weekend.(had the eagles been ready instead of round 1)
Next week we could be playing Gold Coast instead on the Gold Coast.
And we could then be playing hawthorn in our bye round(when they also have a bye)
No matches lost, no real disadvantage with byes.
Heck I’d have done that even if it meant we played them Monday week and Gold Coast played the eagles on Monday night footy next week.(time to recover from Friday nights storm)
