Suns will also be coming off a game in SA v Port. Its far from ideal scenario for them either. Yes they have the advantage of playing at home but we at least have 3 weeks in VIC prior to heading up.
Its hard to see how this was the best possible option for the AFL???
What’s worse will be if either side is challenging for a finals spot. Imagine Suns playing us then needing to travel to play Freo in an elimination final coming off no break while Dockers are fresh and rested. Receipe for disaster.
I think this scheduling nearly indicates the AFL think this game will absolutely be a dead rubber and neither side will be in the hunt for finals.

You’ll also have the situation whereby if anyone in the other round 24 matches gets a regulation concussion, they will still be able to play in the first week of the finals with the week off whereas Gold Coast or Essendon players wouldn’t have that same luxury for want of a better word.

Or could simply get Gold Coast and us to make up the game by playing someone on our bye who’s having a bye and they get a different bye.
Had They made the call on Sunday.
Rang up WestCoast and see if they would come to the party and play their round 1 game in Round 0(still a full week to prepare).
Then shift Gold Coast v Essendon to Round 1.
And shift Hawthorn v Essendon to round 4(where both teams have a bye).
Give Westcoast the week off in round 1.
We don’t get a bye in round 4 but that’s ok most teams don’t because the miss opening round.
West Coast and Hawthorn get one in round 1.(hawks is just a couple
Of weeks early)
But nah AFL

The fixture says we play Carlton in round 24. Looks like it will be a 3 way.
I’m not fazed when we play, I just want the kids to get experience and grow, we aren’t playing finals this season and their is still some players that need to be moved on, but I understand it’s a balance and we need to be patient.
Nope
There’s nothing to suggest they couldn’t play the make up game BEFORE we play Carlton if it adds some excitement to the last round.
