Russia invades Ukraine - the first ten weeks

Ukraine reports shelling across the country, non-stop cyber attacks

Ukraine says at least seven people have been killed by Russian shelling, and nine others wounded.

Its officials say Russia is moving military equipment into the country from annexed Crimea . They are also reporting shelling across the country all the way to Lviv in the west, near Poland.

An official told Reuters there have been non-stop cyber attacks. Another said that one person had been killed and another injured by shelling in Kyiv.

If true, this should be considered a war crime

containing a charge of fuel designed to ignite and combine with oxygen present in the atmosphere to produce a prolonged explosion

Fuel Air Bombs

BTW pretty sure the US used them in Afghanistan, or versions of them.

Yeah they did:
The US military also used thermobaric weapons in Afghanistan. On 3 March 2002, a single 2,000 lb (910 kg) laser guided thermobaric bomb was used by the United States Air Force against cave complexes in which Al-Qaeda and Taliban fighters had taken refuge in the Gardez region of Afghanistan.

Russia supplies Europe with a large percentage of its molecular energy requirements (oil and gas)

A lot of that has to go through the Ukraine, which has its own corrupt oligarchy. Russian oligarchs don’t like Ukrainian oligarchs taking the profits from the transfer of energy.

They also didn’t like the pipeline that was being built to take oil and gas from Azerbaijan into Europe which was the primary source of the annexation of georgia in 2008

Russia is building a new pipeline (nord 2) which will increase its share of oil and gas sales into Europe.

The US doesn’t want this to be built because it will increase Russian influence in Europe. They have been very vocal on this topic.

European countries have basically said we will do what is good for us.

Ukraine is a bit like piggy in the middle. As a population they have a mix of ethnicities which means that some support Russia and some support the west. The new government is quite west leaning
democratic, and also a bit prone to corruption.

The pro western people love it, the pro Russian people hate it, and there have been reports of genocide in the eastern regions.

Georgia is getting closer and closer to NATO which Russia sees as a strategic threat. In recent years the US has been lobbying for Ukrainian membership. Russia has been very vocal in opposition.

Recently NATO has been running joint operations with Ukraine. Russia has said this will lead to war.

The US doesn’t actually care about Ukraine, they want the Nord 2 pipeline to stop being built so that Russia loses influence.

Western Europe would prefer this all went away so that they could get the gas they need without paying through the nose for it.

Russia doesn’t actually care about Ukraine, but Putin wants to secure power and territorial gains and strong man actions shore up support.

Ukraine probably doesn’t really care about those two eastern regions, they’re actually full of Russians.

Eastern Europe is ■■■■■■■■ themselves with the exception of Belarus who are probably more scared of their own president

Scott Morrison is a peanut.

Hot enough to incinerate the oxygen in an area, leaving a pressure vacuum that, for one example, can make the internal organs of a bystander to be not so internal anymore.

Talk of providing more weaponry to Ukraine seems disingenuous if they can’t hold on long enough for it to arrive / be trained to use.

It’s a shame Ukraine didn’t sort out the problems with, and produce big numbers of , their improved T-84 tank.

Yep. If left alone (which unfortunately i think it should be. This isn’t worth starting WW3 over) this could be over very very quickly.

As of 24 hours ago the Ukrainian military had not mobilized.

Caught with their pants down.

If only someone warned them

Russian War Crimes? Spare me. Would never be prosecuted, and it is a quaint notion to start with.

Astonishing. But they’ve seemed very blasē all the way through. Giving Putin no logical reason to invade may have been taken way too far.

Pfft

I won’t take notice until there’s a CRISIS meeting!

They could also take us.
I don’t think we’re part of NATO.
Someone correct me if I’m wrong.

Other powerful countries will just let you waltz right in.

Nope

The Herald Sun has a wider show of that. Pres Xi and Dictator Dan are in the queue.
