Season 2022 - Sydney

Sure, you are entitled to that view. As is everyone on this, I guess.

But not all opinions here are equal - the ones from neurological experts have infinitely more weight than, well, just about everyone else who has an opinion on this.

Uh-huh.
This will be an interesting thread to revisit in ten years time.

There’s so much medical evidence around these days connected to concussion injuries.

McCartin is risking his long term health every time he takes the field (much more so than the average player).

It’s hard to feel sympathy for someone who chooses to put himself in such a situation knowing the inherent danger involved.

You don’t have to have sympathy for the bloke, you’re being asked to stop being a cockring about his situation. I realise it’s in your DNA and by extension, hard to control but you have to find a way to get on top of it.

Thanks troll, I appreciate your kind words.

Just walk away, it isn’t worth it.

I just find it funny how diggers had a go at Essendon for the saga but won’t criticise his beloved swans for putting mccartin out on the field, a guy who has a history of bad concussions

He is very good at trolling, I have to give him that

I agree, he should not be playing imo.
Still, having an argument with a turncoat who sits on the forum of the team he abandoned is a pointless exercise.

It’s interesting now.

P McCartin has likely sustained brain damage due to repeated concussion events but so have multiple others who most likely plyed last weekend.

We applaud the guy who comes back from several ACL injuries but condemn this fellow because he wants to continue playing.

He knows the impact of what he’s doing and the AFL in line with it’s health policies have allowed him to continue playing. If his condition deteriorates outside of current tolerences, he would be de-registered.

What he and humanity more broadly can do without is the contempt for a person trying to overcome a setback, whatever that setback happens to be.

This feels very much like the Cousins discussion back in the day.
A lot of people thought he was on the right track and getting good advice, too.

But I guess we’ll see.
I’m comfortable with my position.

Don’t deny him a learning opportunity.

And so is P McCartin.

Well, let’s hope that advice doesn’t lead him to FUBAR his life as badly as Cousins.

It might. Remember the 60 Minutes interview with G Williams in which he claimed if it wasn’t for the medals, he wouldn’t know he’d won the Brownlow? Every team has players who one day will be in a similar situation. P McCartin has become a perverse role-model for the cause but make no mistake, he’s not alone.

You could do with a learning opportunity too just quietly.

There are medical professionals out there that would rule him out on just the numbers alone, then you add in all the side effects he’s suffered.

You didn’t just go there did you…yeah…yeah you did. :person_facepalming:

Come on Diggers, you can’t equate a stuffed knee with permanent brain damage.

It’s not up to me to decide what’s worse. It’s up to the player/s, the AFL in conjunction with it’s insurers and medical advice to decide.

Yeah…or you could just agree that permanent brain injury from multiple concussions is worse than a recurring knee injury.
