Blatant money grab

It’s a very sensitive topic. What players said on the field 40+ years ago in order to upset the opposition simply wouldn’t fly today. I think Tony Shaw is on record as saying he used to racially abuse indigenous players because it put them off their game. Back then it was anything goes in order to win. Now I find it very hard to believe Kevin Sheedy would be a party to any racist abuse given what he’s done for the indigenous community. But who knows what may have been said by TD, Merrett or Duckworth out on the field 40+ years ago.

There is an allegation that Sheeds admitted to JK that he told his players to racially abuse indigenous players because it put them off their games. Again I find it hard to believe. I don’t know how you can successfully prove something that is essentially your word against mine from 40+ years ago.

Might be a good opportunity to turf Sheedy from the board.

If he isn’t moved on, this club stands for nothing.

Yep.

Didn’t know Jim was already out of jail. Again.

Solid moral character.

Must be desperate for a dollar. Good to see though the usual judge and jury on here have already given out their verdict.

Really?
Irrespective of what happened in the 80s, Sheeds through the 90s and 2000s Sheeds probably did more publically for the advancement of indigenous players than anyone else.
Given the enormous changes in what is (and isn’t) considered acceptable over the past 20-30 years, if we got rid of everyone on our board with skeletons in the closet we wouldn’t have anyone born before our last premiership!

He should stand down until it all plays out. Clacko has proven nobody really gives a ■■■■ about this stuff though. Nothing will come of it. I’d be happy with the AFL making an example of these guys if it’s true though.

How?
AFAIK Sheeds is the only one of the 4(?) still involved in the AFL.

If they make an example of our guys, when it’s widely been admitted that this stuff was rife in the league I will be ■■■■■■■ furious. Scapegoating 4 people is not going to repair the damage done by plenty.

Could say that about anything.

Is just a warm-up to the Vin Cattogio law suit

Im really sad that TD has been alleged to be racist against Phil Krakouer.

Real disappointed.

A man would apologise if thats the case. Even if TD doesnt think the racist intent was there.

Maybe the class action makes it complicated in doing so. (Admitting guilt and hence large compensation)

Amusing that they selected certain people to name and not just left it for the whole of the AFL. The whole league was racist in it’s attitude and approach. If anyone thinks it was just us you should go talk to a few Hawthorn people, they will let you know the stuff they said on the field.

I’d be surprised if TD and Sheedy did any of the things alleged…….Sheedy has always supported and championed indigenous players. TD is a tough country lad with a kind heart. He played with Long and Kickett. He also captained and played for Victoria with many indigenous players ……I have my doubts they did those things

Why is it so hard for people to believe that Sheedy may have been a racist in his early days?

Perhaps he had a change of heart and realised his wrongdoings and embraced the indigenous people after that.

All I know is that chaos seems to follow Sheedy. The club can’t afford that. Just cut him loose already.
