Or mathematically, NAS>BS
Smith, clearly for mine.
NWM has the 2nd most disposals in the league.
Smith 9th. Close enough.
Smith smashes him on tackles, contested possessions, clearances, and surprisingly, disposal efficiency.
Smith is just a more well-rounded player.
In my opinion.
Edit: It’s not just about stats. When it matters in tight contested football, if an opponent is trying to run past Wanganeen…or Smith…
If you need someone to break a tackle, Wanganeen…or Smith…
If Wanganeen and Smith are both running towards a loose ball…
I have seen each play 1 game this season. I cannot form a judgement on such a small sample, but my impression is that BS has more raw power and is better suited as a stoppage mid, NAS might have a better hit rate going inside 50.
The biggest shock to me was that NAS was tagged out of the midfield by our midget mid, McGrath last Friday.
Nowhere near it. In two years time he may be when he goes to Port.
No mistake he is a good player and will have a standout game or two, but every Team except perhaps the Bombers have one or more better players than him. $2 million is nonsense.
Okay 2 more verbatim comments from bona fide Saints supporters, both of whom l played cricket with 40 or so years ago, at East St. Kilda.
AD: “Over the farken moon! We don’t win flags so we enjoy the little wins… like coming back from 46 points down at 3/4 time against the Dees.”
KD: “Would just like the private phone numbers & addresses of al the click bait junkies and journos who had nothing better to do that slam every single thing to do with player unrest.
Get a couple of Dobermans and park them in their front yard swith the orders “attack the nufties and take no prisoners” …
But apart from that - not much really!!!”
Fair to say the average Saints fan is pretty happy with the news. I rest my case.
What’s your case?
My posts were in reply to this post.
Ohhhh.
Fair.
I’d be thrilled to keep him but resigned to losing him in two years. Still, gives them every opportunity to change his mind about that.
If it’s a choice between losing NWM and Windhager…pretty easy.
If that port offer of 12 years at $2.5 p.a. is legit, then you really need to give massive credit to St Kilda. Keeping him there at all was a massive battle. Nas has walked away from generational wealth for the time being… to stay at the Saints.
And if his form dips at all, he may never see that sort of offer again. This is farking huge for them. They should be enjoying every moment of it.
Hopefully he kills it for 2 years and is worth a lot more.
Obviously each to their own but I think NWM is significantly better at impacting a game of football than many on that list of yours.
Heeney, Young, Butters, Gulden
I said Butters, I did think Heeney.
Different skills are difficult to evaluate, and different players are going to be more valuable to different teams.
NWM would improve our side, no doubt. He’s a very, very good player.
Would he improve us more than at least some of the players I mentioned?
I don’t think so.
What he does have on his side is that he’s younger than just about all of them.
He is like Neo when he started to believe.
Don’t forget that Neo then chose to forget.
Like many Essendon players who forget how to play.
Saints have got a fair shopping list, linked to the below players:
TDK (Confirmed)
Liam Ryan
Flanders
Leek Aleer
Silvagni
Cam McKenzie
Funny thing is, upon appointing Lyon after sacking Ratten, they said they didn’t want to be stuck in the middle, between 6th-12th, yet these signings probably elevate them into that bracket, and spunking a fair bit of cash in the process.
Saints will make a big play for Steven may, watch this space.
Seems saints have landed another big fish, must have a very good accountant to be able to pay these new additions million dollars - incuding it seems is jack silvagni. Anyway just because they have these new players, does not mean that they will be the 2026 premiers, more likely they are desperate to get to flag 2, which ain’t gonna happen under Ross the Boss.
They have 2 years to impress NWM Saints in a hurry
