First ever 2 million dollar man
So, between TDK (1.2m), NWM (2m) and Leek Aleer (700k), that’s the better part of 4 mill/year. What’s the salary cap these days? The other 35 players gonna be living on bread and water?
Salary cap over $18m.
The other 35 would average out at $400k but you have players on well under that plus ones with front loaded, back ended etc.
I don’t see it as such a huge issue TBH
I take it he isn’t mates with Caddy?
Good result for the game. Glad to see him stay at the Saints for at least a couple more years. They’ve got to pull out all stops to show genuine progression now to keep him beyond this.
If I was a saints fan I’d not be thrilled about a 2 year extension. He’s hedging his best on long term future.
There will be the same innuendo in 12 months time again, especially if saints are ■■■■ again, which they will be.
Beggars can’t be choosers. I think at certain stages he was probably erring towards leaving this time around. You’d rather have at least some hope. Plus, the Saints do probably know that he’s going home at some point anyway. It’s just a matter of when.
Just opened this thread for the first time since January. I think it’s safe to call Tsatas vs Philiipou a nil all draw.
With the average player salary now sitting on $493,592, I think it is an issue.
I wonder whether the rise and rise of NWM has caused any downward adjustments in the Saints offer for TDK. I know that probably doesn’t typically happen as it would p¡ss off the player and their management and would have the potential for them to walk away from the deal and stay at the Blues or look elsewhere but gee there has to be some salary tinkering across the squad somewhere.
Surely 1.5m or 1.6m a year is still ridiculously above the odds to get TDK. I know you pay a tax for getting players across to a sh¡t team but does it really need to be 1.8 (or 1.7 depending what you read)?!
Hmm, it appears my “contact” was correct, surprisingly.

Knowing a few saints fans, the ones I know are very happy at this point, given they had all but given up in the face of the media reporting
The media were convinced if he was staying he wouldn’t have left it so late to sign.
The media we’re guessing/making stuff up to get clicks, as always
But without seeing what their other contracts look like it’s unknown. List management are always working years in advance so for all we know the Saints could have front loaded a stack of salary for the last year or two and you can also bank salary cap. Saints might have been under the cap this year and can spend that next year.
Let the Adelaide/Port melts begin.
Thats actually awesome news for the Saints.
Good for them.
Now they have to do everything they can over the next 2 years to convince him to stay longer.
Going to be tough but it has happened before.
I don’t think there will be many melts. He will certainly be home in 2 years when both sides will have a lot more draft capital
Could make it more likely Draper goes to the Crows.
