Well, if that’s good enough for the Federal government to review the “rape culture” in Parliament House, it should be good enough for EFC.
He has been at the club for last 13 years and 4 months…and 8 years n 4 months as CEO… wow… no success for the period…no coincidence…
I think that overall direction for the club changed very much for the better in terms of resources and stability, and you cannot really argue with that. But I follow footy for the performance on the park, and to me this means total domination, crushing wins and other club supporters hating me. Over the past 10 years there has been some courageous performances, mostly during Hird as coach and a couple while Bomber was at the helm.
Our best 26 players could be stacked up favorably against most teams in terms of ability, but this year when they have got on to the park, there is little passion and fire. I am a critic of Ham and Cutler, and even these two especially Ham showed more at the end of last year. Cox and Perkins are the same. Draper is floundering, and the mid-field run around without much action. Martin and Durham show them up for lack of intensity.
So I do not believe it is a problem with the establishment, meaning Basher, Xav and the Board. Yep Jackets time has come, fitness seems an issue and Ruttens “blue-collar” mantra is just bullshite. Pity Sheedy is too old and Hird is still seen as the Devil.
I’m reminded of Tony Birch’s contribution to the book From the Outer when he wrote 'There is nothing more vital to the longevity of a dedicated supporter of a struggling club than an acute ability to defy logic.’
The mids need an old fashioned clip behind the ear every bloody week. Group of over paid slackers who think they are better than they are.
This week, they will put in a token effort and maybe even the next few weeks, but eventually they will go back to their lazy ways again.
The kids are learning or wondering why they should bother when the over paid mids are putting in the lazy efforts.
Need to start recruiting players with the right mental strength and competitive edge.
Don’t want to single a player out, but Shiel has always been a mistake that I have pointed out.
See, this is the thing. Do our best 26 players stack up favourably?
I would say we perennially overrate our list. It’s unbalanced and has so many gaping holes.
We seem to have the same damn sense of optimism every year based on sweet FA.
If that were true we would have won a final, at least by now.
The nature of the fixture dictates that the wheat is separated from the chaff.
By any measure we do not stack up favourably against ‘most other teams’.
Unless there is some sort of competition for most midgets in a best 22.
That one we would probably win.
I reckon they do compare on ability, but ability doesn’t win you games, kicking goals does and that happens with intensity, pressure and effort.
Hard disagree. We need to take the rose coloured glasses off.
Hmmm…. Who has more credibility… Fed Govt… Essendon…
That’s a tough one Albert……

Want to win a flag in “the next 2-3 years”, but also want to make finals this year.
we will not win a final in next 2-3 years.
Our entire backline have looked out of form. Everyone of Redman, Hind, Heppell, Ridley, Stewart and Laverde. In that Adelaide game I thought Redman and Hind were back playing good footy.
How do that many players go backwards in development in one pre-season.
We draft Cox and Reid and sell the dream that our KP spots are locked in for 10 years and then can’t get Reid to be fit and play Cox to fart around on the wing.
Why the fark wouldn’t you train him to be a key forward and play him there.
I don’t see why you place so much faith in a “review”. What’s there to review? We know what the problems are.
First problem: we don’t have the players. We don’t have a single genuine star. We don’t have a genuine key back and we have one okay key forward. We don’t have a big midfielder. Half the players in our best 22 would not get a game at another club.
Second problem. We don’t have any genuine leaders. The players are not fit enough and don’t work hard enough, and that’s because there’s no-one in the team or among the coaches who is showing them what needs to be done and making them do it.
Sure, we can pay some company a couple of hundred thousand dollars to do a complete review, but if they’re any good then they’ll conclude that those are our two major problems. Of course they’ll take 50 pages to get to those conclusions and have lots of pretty photos and graphs and fancy powerpoint slides. But that’s what they’ll conclude. Solve those two problems and we’re on our way to the 17th flag.
But there’s a third problem, which is that the first two problems are very difficult to solve. No review will solve them. A review will say, recruit better players and find some better leaders. Whoopee-do. Yep, let’s do that.
Personally, I would be replacing the recruiting department and the head coach.
100% spot on with the leadership point.
For me, it’s a massive reason we’re in this predicament. Leadership sets standards and drives accountability.

I think that overall direction for the club changed very much for the better in terms of resources and stability, and you cannot really argue with that.
I don’t doubt they do a fantastic job at resourcing.
That’s a part of their job, and they do that bit well.
I take a great issue with the stability part. And, obviously, we’re going like a busted ■■■■, so there’s that, as well.
Any chance we could grab Neil Balme?…
People saying we should get Ross Lyon, We should get Clarkson, we should get Hodge…. That’s what we’ve been doing for years.
Thinking the solution is just over there.
It’s not. We have for years just gone and got people. That’s not the actions of a successful business.
You don’t just grab the next person walking along. You might as well say we should get Sheedy, he used to be good once.
It’s complete nonsense.
You review the situation, analyse the results, work out what you need, then recruit for it. Doesn’t matter whether it’s for the CEO, the coaching team or the social media intern, you recruit in a competitive situation.

Unless there is some sort of competition for most midgets in a best 22.
That one we would probably win.
haha!

You review the situation, analyse the results, work out what you need, then recruit for it. Doesn’t matter whether it’s for the CEO, the coaching team or the social media intern, you recruit in a competitive situation.
Correct, but I don’t think the board has the ability to do it.
List managers tell the board they have a good list and it gets a tick
Coach tells the board they are on the right track and it gets a tick.
Until we have a board that can actually evaluate the clubs performance independently of what management is telling them we are screwed.
Brasher and the board were too cowardly to order an external review after Saad, Daniher etc. left. He has been there too long and is part of the insular culture.
This club needs a full reset: board, ceo, coach (if the lack of player intent continues), captain, senior players traded and a new fitness department. But we won’t. We will middle for another 7 to 10 years.
The definition of mediocrity is Essendon.
