Something seriously wrong with the club (Part 2, March 2022)

So majority of people want us to blow up the list and start again then what be irrelevant and ■■■■ for another 20 years?

If we are going to rebuild has to be done in a smart way not just blow up the list and have a team full of draftees you only have to look at North how ■■■■ that is their is already talks of thier rebuild being a failure

If you want to do a proper rebuild you look at how Brisbane and Freo did it

I feel like players have it too easy at our club. They walk into a history of success, money and support built by previous great players that have hung up the boots.
We have marquee games and 80k memberships despite the embarrassing performances of the past 20 years.
No matter who comes in, the culture doesn’t change so we surely need to look at external factors because every coach we bring in can’t be bad.
Is it the powerbrokers, the board, the brand?
It needs to be stripped back to nothing, the club needs to re-establish what it stands for because it is a bigger basket case than it ever has been right now.
I’m at my lowest ebb with this club which includes the Saga.
The delight I get from Essendon is severely outweighed by the dread at the moment.

Can’t just review coaching and onfeild issues.

Must review all the CEO’s mistakes and must, must, must review list management.

It’s not about rebuilding the list, Nino. It’s about rebuilding the club.

I think we should rebuild the club first before even thinking about blowing up the list and see where that takes us imo

What?!

Brisbane sucked for ages, how do you think they drafted McLuggae pick 3, Scache pick 2 and Rayner pick 1.

Freo sucked for ages picked Brayshaw pick 2 amongst others.

They sucked drafted well and now have good teams.

North Melbourne will be light years ahead of us in 3-4 years and you’ll be saying they did it in an off-season why can’t we.

the stare in the last second kills me every time😭 ■■■■ sake, we’re so embarrassing.

I think the list blowing up is a unavoidable side affect of rebuilding the club.

There’s gonna be a lot of players not interested in sticking around for that.

Brisbane were at bottom for about 3-4 years and they also had good players leave every year.

Who’s to say a change at the top starting with the ceo, board, list manager, fitness, development etc couldn’t have an impact of the playing list

Our list it not great I agree but I don’t think it’s a complete basket case. if a coach had a choice of which list to coach out of port, west coast, north it will be Essendon we have the most upside and stuff to work with

Merrett is going to be an interesting watch this year, as much as it pains me to say it. He was clearly so close to leaving last year. Wouldn’t hold it against him at all, I mean, who could

Still don’t think Merrett would be too worried overall. He’s gonna be around for a while and we are going to add some nice talent this year through the draft.

If people can lift their eyes a bit from their varied and dispersed grievances, the bottom falling out this year is not all bad. Might shake a few jobs loose, fitness review takes place and we continue to add to the Zerrett and under group- which really is the cohort that will be taking us forward.

His performance is no better than the other leaders at the club.

3-4 years? From 2010-2018 the lions finished 13, 15, 13, 12, 15, 17, 17, 18, 15. That’s 7 bottom four finishes in 9 years and zero finals appearances. Our last 7 bottom four finishes were 2016, 2015, 2010, 2006, 2005, 1997, and 1978.

1992 (incl. 160 point hiding from Hawthorn) and 1994 (Long does knee in preseason) were pretty fkg terrible…

hind, heppell, smith, shiel, Hurley, phillips…their all cooked. so if its any of those complaining well…good

not even just that, ruttens “blue collar defensive culture” and you go back to rd 1 and how many times did the players just sprint forward and left guys fighting for the ball only to lose it and have geelong watlz it into their fwd 50 with 3 loose players ?

how many jogging efforts on defensive efforts have gone unnoticed up until the last 2 weeks.

If it’s true, (and it could very easily just be a guesstimate and a headline based on 2020’s crap) it reeks of the typical senior players feeling like they are losing their power (surprise surprise re the last few weeks and getting a lil bit tougher on them) and then going with the disgruntled senior players card essendon likes to use.

If any senior players are disgruntled, they should be removed from the club, and told to go find another place that will tolerate their ■■■■.

Luckily there aren’t many seniors players left

Heppel
Smith
Shiel
Hurley
Hind

Who else Philips? I don’t see him as the type to be disgruntled imo

There are even a couple of really highly touted interstate tall forwards we can pin all our hopes on in the draft.

Definitely annus horribilis contenders. Had the more narrow view of ‘since our last flag’ though.

Unless there is an unfathomable turnaround in coming weeks/months, which I just absolutely cannot see happening considering how low we are, I think 2022 will top them all.
