Something seriously wrong with the club (Part 3, August 2022)

LOL

Someone please topple this board. I don’t want to hear any of sheedys whining anymore.

yep … and now it seems he’s going scorched earth policy trying to take down anyone and everyone with him.

like trying to claim him and barham had the final say, why would only 2 members of the board have a final say ?
I know people will say oh he needed sheedy to cross the floor, well it’s become apparent sheedy only ever wanted hird to be coach, so technically he needed to be on the other side of the fence to get rutten sacked to begin with.
so barham doesn’t need sheedy as much as sheedy needed him.

and even if it was them 2 having the final say, it’s still 2 people so who did he think would get the final say if the chose different people ?

If anything it’s coming off as Sheedy played himself thinking he could manipulate people into parachuting hird back into the role and making all these claims and promises he couldn’t keep.

Cos ultimately I stand by, I do not believe the panel would have recommended hird, even if it was 2 candidates the board wanted, because you have 2 people who hate essendon and are in the media, they would not stake their reps on giving the club to use them as a sham process to parachute hird into a role and take the blame for it when it fails

agree barham has to go at some point, but to what end, he will be replaced with people who will do the exact same ā– ā– ā– ā– .
they’ll get people in they want cos jobs for the boys.
the same ā– ā– ā– ā–  will be the end result.

because again the club is now just a networking/business tool for people who have money and pretend to support the club.

Robbo’s articles, as told by Sheedy and some anonymous sources, have revealed what you have described as skilfully executed play by Barham to secure Scott, a good outcome.
Absent those tell alls by Sheedy and co we would not have been aware how the appointment was made.
It therefore adds to our knowledge base how Barham and the Board operate.
Sheedy did not create the subsequent adverse headlines on the AT appointment. It was all down to Barham. Perhaps using the same technique as with the Scott appointment, his execution was abysmal.
It’s stuffed the club and it’s down to him.

Can we try turning the club off and on again?

So if the review in part looks at footy department as to why we’ve been ā– ā– ā– ā–  and we are to believe media reports, why is the club shoring up Mahoney with the new coach? What if the review was to find Mahoney is responsible for a lot of the issues? He IS the head of a failing department.

I hear what your saying, but disagree a little bit. Yes the CEO thing was a ā– ā– ā– ā–  up, but the rest needed to happen IMO.

We have gone nowhere for 2 decades because this club has not been run like a normal club. Too many elites and their mates have had too much influence and something needed too change. Yes Clarkson & the CEO thing look bad but underlying them is fundamental change……this needed to happen if we are to avoid another decade of ordinariness.

Will the change work, I don’t know, but what I do know is the old way didn’t

Is there anything that resembles a unified Supporter Group (other than the coterie groups) that will voice our utter disdain over the club’s incompetent management until this point (and all likelihood into the future)?

Just to itemise -

Terrible decades long on field performance
Board broken
President and CEO gone
Rutten left hanging
Failed Clarko courting
Rutten sacked
Scott good appointment but process now smelling of dodgy behaviour
Sheedy goes rogue ruining Scott’s announcement
CEO appointment processes stuffed
CEO appointed with big ? over his past NAB and current church role
LGBTQi community and AFLW outraged
CEO given ultimatum after less than a day and goes
Those of faith (both progressive and fundamental) and conservatives now also outraged
No potential recruits seem interested in EFCM
Murmuring of another board spill

Have I missed anything?
As terrible as it sounds, is it time for the AFL to intervene?

Spill the board, find a new CEO and everythings on track.

Maybe a board spill, I don’t know if that will make that big a difference. The coach is the big one. No more touchie feelie preferred player ■■■■… we need a kant and I think Scott fits the bill and Clarkson certainly was/is one, so I understand why we chased him….so thats a positive in our new direction.

Our list is young & very close to what we need …. and we need our youngsters to progress NOW. Tough love with player development AND accountability is absolutely required, I think Scott will bring that. Truck didn’t appear to and maybe thats on the board/executive more than Truck. The VFL team is also a concern, it needs to be highly competitive, and it hasn’t been, which is not good for development of the youngsters, so big change needed there too IMO

The press is loud but get more irrelevant by the article. The latest on Lombardi is laughable.

It’s the off season we had to have, no doubt things will calm down when the botched recruiting is past us and player return in average shape and Scott gives them a bake.

For balance - the CEO process was slated to be completed by mid October and they got it done about 2 weeks ahead of schedule.
Sceptically, it was rushed through for AGM
optics and they didn’t adopt the policy of leaving no stone unturned.
As evidenced by The Board’s EY support, Dorothy Hisgrove sightseeing in Portugal and not focused on the preparation of the candidate assessments that were supposed to be tabled to the EFC Board.
Was Thorburn that far ahead of the other ā€˜good candidates’ that a new search has to be undertaken?
If so, it’s an indictment on EY’s and Dorothy’s capability to find decent talent.
If not, what’s holding up Barham to announce the next in line.

Ummm … so what’s changed?

My fear is if Barham goes it will allow Sheedy to have to much influence and power at the club. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if that happened they would ā– ā– ā– ā–  Scott over to the point he just quits, and then Hirdy takes over. And to anyone who thinks that couldn’t happen just read these articles from Robbo.

We can’t allow this to happen imo, Barham just has to stay on for the short to medium term. These coterie groups need to pull their heads and stop constantly ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā–  the club over by thinking they know best because they don’t.

I’m sick of these so called journalists taking pot shots at the club.

Why aren’t we suing them for defamation?

In the paper this morning is a picture of prominent people from the club with the caption ā€œbrokenā€.

I’m no solicitor but this would have to be a winable case.

I want brasher or someone from the club to come out swinging.

Paul little how about you do or day something constructive and take in the media?

Scotty will be our saviour.

If anyone know how much a useless, dog ā– ā– ā– ā–  the media can be…it’s Brad.

He’ll knuckle down and make us resilient.

Us against the football world. Ruthless.

Plus ā– ā– ā– ā–  all these old white ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– , from corporate Australia on our board. I’d rather Nino and BB people running this club.

We should set EFC up as a DAO with all decisions voted on by members.
