LOL

I am not and never have a Member of a Coterie, as I am too tight to spend the amount of money, but have friends who are who sometimes invite Mrs Fox and I to footy or functions,

These people are the real Members who stick by the Bombers through thick and thin, putting their hands in their pockets to keep the club afloat, building new facilities.

Beats me why you are so farking jealous. Most of the Essendonians I have met are Tradies or Small Business Owners, they love watching, talking and are passionate about the Bombers. Even the very rich Bombers supporters I know would rather be watching our boys win a flag than playing corporate BS games at the club.

Dave Barham has never professed to be perfect, but he deserves support for the actions he has taken to turn us around on the field. What have you and @Stallion ever done except whinge.

yep … nothing will change at the club while they continue to rely heavily on these people and their money.

it’s not worth selling your soul for the lil that they actually deliver.
I know it won’t happen, but the club should sink or swim without their ā€œhelpā€. get rid of taking money from them.

The hird doing a private function for them during the process reeks even more now of those wankers thinking he was a shoe in for the job cos sheedy has sold them a lemon.

It was reported at some point over the past few months that some players of the 84-85 era were considering a run at the board if things had continued as they were. I wonder if this is them deciding they haven’t liked the change they’ve seen.

Disagree with this as it was booked months in advance and these sort of things happen quite often (with various different former players) but it’s just that we don’t hear about them, as they’re well above our membership grade.

You are probably right.
I’m not sure what I feel about Sheedy.
I think the initial timing was wrong when he spoke out about voting for Hird. But the reaction was totally over the top… to the point where people on here are saying he is deranged, crazy and senile… and that he and Hird should fro.
The disrespect shown to 2 champions of the club really saddens me…

You really have a problem

So much this! I’m not saying Hird was the best person, I stated before Scott was even in the picture that I didn’t think the club was in any position to bring Hird back as senior coach & it would almost certainly end in tragedy. I do believe though that there’s no way Hird would have been considered on merit by guys like Walls & Lewis. Its almost impossible for me to believe he could be viewed impartially by external parties just as certain as some internal parties would have preferable bias.

Sinister that Hird is invited to attend a function.
Zero interest in the guest list of social functions of Board members, whom they have met up with over the same period.

Sounds like someone needs, A GLASS OF RED :wine_glass:

All this forum angst inspires the journos to keep this story bubbling along, especially Robbo who in his pickled feeble mind will use it as an excuse to continue to agitate for unneeded change

Agreed. I wasn’t in favour of Hird as senior coach (I wish he’d applied for an assistant role instead), but as soon as the composition of the panel was announced, it was clear there was no chance he’d get the role.

And given the way the Thorburn appointment was handled, with the process increasingly looking like a sham conducted to put window-dressing on a pre-determined outcome, I’m now thinking this may have at least partially been the point. After all, if you want to paint a media picture of new Essendon under new management moving past the insularity and boys-club stuff of the past like so many have wanted us to do, what better way to do it than allow (or encourage) Hird to apply for the coaching position and then conspicuously knock him back in favour of an non-Essendon candidate?

guess it depends on when one thinks Sheedy started making moves, considering he’s hitched his sail to the hird boat, makes you wonder how long he’s been sneaking around in the shadows trying to do this (see we can all sell a story like robbo and sheedy)

It’s a very big coincidence that of all the functions at all the times as you say we dont’ hear about, this one happened in the middle of a coach search, funny that. again esp considering the sorched earth burning every bridge approach sheedy is now taking on his way out.

Sheedy had been planning this since at least the Carlton game. Likely well before that.

Yeah, it’s a fair point and I agree that it seems Sheedy was waiting for an opportunity for a while. I just think footy clubs are insular enough that there’s going to be coincidences like this along the way.

if one could be bothered i guess you could check when robbo started on his push to welcome back or get hird back to the club, as we would know it’s sheedy pulling his little puppets string to push that narrative.
carlton game wouldn’t be surprising.

Absolutely. His face when they showed it at that game said it all. You could see the wheels in his brain were turning then.

I thought at the time he was not happy with the situation and would do something to make change.

And the standard run of the mill club members haven’t? I don’t think anyone said they are all bad, but the ones with the cash to throw about and want to splinter the club because they don’t like a coach or a chairman etc are.

The one word to sum this club up over the last 20 years is SELFISH. Thinking we just deserve to be the best when all we do is look for quick fixes and or bring in a messiah because he will unite the club and fix all our problems. There is never unity because most of our board and coteries are driven by their own selfish agendas, which I suppose is what happens when we have been utter rubbish for such a long period of time.

We need to stick it out with Barham and let him continue what he started, and not give in to the media driven hyperbole that just wants more turmoil at Essendon because it’s good for business.

I think the Robbo article was around that time.

The week after that game, I saw Sheedy, Longy and wanga do one of those money-grab ā€˜sportsmans nights’ where they pretend they are there to talk, but they are really just flogging signed memorabilia and books at RRP and above.

Anyway, he brought up Hird quite a bit. And how he was a great coach, and should get the chance to coach Essendon again. He also kept hinting to the angry masses that ā€˜change’ was coming.

Someone needs to get the bullet for the AT appointment as CEO. It’s either him and / or Hisgrove if what’s been reported is true.
