I will sit through a rebuild, because what ■■■■■■■ choice do we have?
Persist with this list? Our best 23 consists of players who are in their “prime” who still make shocking decisions, basic skill errors and have zero killer instinct, and the worst part, mentally fragile.
They’re no good.
We have probably 8 players max you could argue that are untouchable.
We need to start the rebuild this year. There is still time but we can’t ■■■■ around. We could hit this draft and the next one and regenerate. Maybe the draft after that too but I think Tassie will be getting picks by then.
But its not too late to start a rebuild, the club need to be honest with themselves are realise these players aren’t the answer. And for gods sake can we get a fresh pair of eyes on draftees…not the same dunce who’s been there for this entire debacle.
Probably the main difference between us and Carlton is they were a somewhat talented team playing crap.
We are a crap team playing crap.
We aren’t having a fairytale run, because we have about 2 players with the testicular fortitude to try and make a stand, the rest are not good enough to compete consistently at AFL level.
They actually won’t. They will for the first of six years, then ehen the rot sets in halfway through year two (or three), they’ll be calling for sacking of coaches. It happens at every club that goes through the full rebuild. Essendon would be no different.
I would rather the club accept that the list is complete horseshit and go through a rebuild ,instead of persisting with the spineless hacks we have now and not being able to get any higher than 10th.
We have no choice mate. None.
I’d rather we sell off everyone and get multiple picks in the top 5 in the next 2 years and find some ELITE players with ELITE traits.
This team we have is not young…and its ■■■■.
It’s playing like a bottom 4 side…again…just like last year. And the year before that.
What stops the same argument being said a year and half into the rebuild too? I don’t agree with Scott’s approach to date and I hope they pivot starting with selection this week. Still - I don’t think it warrants burning everything to the ground. They can start playing kids, cut the list and go into summer with a high draft pick / better balanced list.
We’ve sat through 20 years of ■■■■■. I’d happily sit through 4 to 5 years of a proper list build.
I enjoyed going to the footy stress free in 2016. Just rock up expecting to lose, focused on watching kids develop, occasionally getting very pleasantly surprised.
When you trick yourself into thinking we’re a chance you ride every error and your Cortisol goes through the roof.
We need 3 or 4 years of top 4 picks, someone who knows how to use them, and a bit of luck
Which clubs that went through full rebuilds didn’t sack coaches before the won a final? Most of these clubs ultimately sack coaches. Richmond and Geelong are the celebrated minority of clubs that held tight in the end but it still took the Tigers 6 years to get there.
Full rebuild might work but it’s unlikely to be painless for fans like some might make you think.
Not arguing we haven’t and a rebuild won’t get there faster. Just saying it would be likely painful and protracted as an alternative, without guarantee of success.
Dees didn’t sack roos, he always planned to step aside.
And if we decide to sack a coach 3 years into the rebuild because we don’t think he’s the right one that’s fine, as long as we’ve got the right list manager…
Our so called ‘rebuild’ (or refresh according to Brasher) we had a few years ago, was an absolute sham.
I said at the time, my concern was that we’re going about it all wrong. We prioritised recruiting the wrong players. We messed it up, and you could see it clear as day.
But as always the excuses. “Give it time”, “give these guys are ago”.
Well time has passed…… and again Dodoro has f*cked it up again.
