Something seriously wrong with the club (Part 3, August 2022)

TIME WILL TELL

I would happily sit through a rebuild if it was done properly and not half-assed like it has been since the turn of the century.

Closer to 60 actually

This is the biggest load of nonsense and used by people to entrench their position because the status quo suits them.

Supporters have sat through all manner of sh!te for the last 20 years. A proper, sustainable, long-term rebuild with an eye to winning flags and not fluking a final - that would be the easiest sell ever.

I’d love to rock up every week and focus on the development of Tsatas and Caddy and Roberts and Davey etc - even this week, if Brad brought in a stack of kids, I’d actually go along to see that. He won’t though, we will get Goldy, Kelly and the same olds.

watching parish mentally destroy melbourne in his first year was footy nirvana

Nah, lack of ability played a big part as well. We overrate most players.

Merrett is the only player we have who is in top 50 in competition and maybe top 100.

Mate you’ll hurt their feelings

Each of these teams were missing key players too. Gawn, Petracca, Rankine, Walker, Henry…

Jeez I can’t wait until next week if we pull off a win against Freo, and maybe Suns and we get the “Where you at now gloomers” remark.

Unlikely though, I don’t actually think we could beat North at Marvel at the moment, that’s how poor and mentally checked out the playing group is.
I’d genuinely say we are the worst team in the competition currently.
Certainly showing less fight than anyone. And we have/had everything to play for.
We had a dream run, teams falling around us left right and centre.
And like clockwork, we fall apart even more spectacularly than all of them. We don’t have the players or coaching staff to find another gear when it gets serious.

We don’t need to go full scorched earth, but we do need to make changes beyond the superficial ones we’ve made of late.

Agree that playing kids and cutting the list as deep as possible would be a good start.

It’s an easy sell. It’s just not as straight forward to execute. At the end of the day this year we could end up with a close to bottom 4 finish and could still cut a number of experienced players. The missed opportunity is developing Bryan, Tsatas and maybe Hobbs.

I’d say three or four at most.

Merrett
Caldwell
Durham
Caddy.
Duursma
Martin- unless WCE come in with a huge offer.

Who else

Persist with Jones and Cox.

Writing on the wall with Reid.

Trade bait: Drape/McGrath/Stringer/Shiel. I think Parish is still very valuable as an extractor but he has trade value i guess.

Need to draft and recruit competitive animals. Nothing else matters.

It’s not about who is untouchable. It’s about who could be part of a successful Essendon team in September. There are more than 4 or even 8 players that could be a part of this, you can’t draft superstars in every position.

The average fringe players we currently have that will not be part of a successful group going forward can be cut though, and replaced by others we give a go who could offer more. We certainly won’t lose anything in doing this.

Guarantee it.

But if we win, I’ll be more ■■■■■■ off. Seriously pick and choosing when they want to perform

I wouldn’t be surprised if we beat Freo. Season is done, pressure is off. Kind of like how we kick goals once the game is over. Means nothing.

Barham please come out publicly and send a message.

If ever there was a moment to take a stand against what this club has become, now has to be it.

“What was dished up by our players on Saturday, and in particular our senior group, was not good enough!!”

“We no longer accept those insipid displays of uncompetitiveness”

“The senior group have 4 weeks to decide whether they want to be part of our plans going forward”

Saying this behind closed doors is not enough anymore. Our once great club have been tarnished for far too long.

Ultimately words are meaningless if they don’t carry substance. But words can mean a lot, especially if they ARE NOT retracted when players feelings get hurt.

Put it this way I’d rather be a North supporter than an Essendon supporter currently. They have been putrid but you can see that they a clear plan in place and have nailed the majority of their high picks to the point where they are starting to be competitive most weeks and with some smart trading and FA’s can build a list that over the next 4-5 years will see them win a final well before we do. They had some serious pain but are starting to see some progress now and will absolutely overtake us soon enough and possibly as early as next year

Richmond and west coast will overtake us in a few years. They know where they are, we dont have a farkin clue
