Something seriously wrong with the club (Part 3, August 2022)

Got to give our forwardline a bit of a break (apart from the small forwards). We literally never kick it to their advantage.

He was getting double teamed because they identified him as the only guy who could take a contested grab.

But he’s still pretty exciting, right?

Yep do like him otherwise

If there’s one thing im not concerned about with caddy, its his marking

Nino is just arguing for arguing sake now.

He’s held onto this opinion for 20 years, and can no longer go back.

The whole ā€œwe’re Essendon, we don’t do rebuilds, we’re too bigā€ thing that was getting around mid-00’s.

Our strategy hasn’t worked for 20 years. Ego is getting in the way, whether that’s with board or supporters.

As Nino always says ā€œWhen one door shuts, another door shuts and then you barricade yourself in the house, and pour gasoline everywhere.ā€

Now, what if I told you there was a way we could get more exciting kids into the team?

To quote Sydney Swans recruiter Beatson ā€œhaving football skills is a given, but they must be a competitorā€. Or something like that!

And there in lies our problem, our ā– ā– ā– ā–  recruiting cannot identify either of those traits.

Sure Supporters love wins, but I reckon we love effort more. We have already sat through 20 farking years of pain so a rebuild will not phase most.

Dodoro explaining our recruitment: ā€œhe has elite foot skillsā€.

Me: surely that’s a requirement of recruitment, not a preference.

If we had Sheezal and Reid and playing in our midfield would you be hopefull if our future or thinking we would suck for the next decade.

A bit unfair for mine. My understanding is that Andy McGrath was highly competitive in the Brighton Grammar School Choir. He was demanding to be given the lead vocalist in Lakeside Lullaby.

Unfortunately this is accurate.

Which sucks because by then all the players we could ship out now for picks will be worth nothing.

Andy McGrath rarely loses at scrabble. Clearly has competitiveness in his blood.

could slot wim into that 3rd line

The problem is the club never sells us a clear vision. Identify a clear path forward that prioritises youth and building a group from close to the ground up and take us along for the ride with you.

But no, it’s always some vague shĀ”t like, ā€œwe need to just get betterā€.

This sort of sh*t drives me nuts with people like Grant from LTCU.

He spends hours complaining about the players……. But don’t you dare blame the recruiting. It’s not even a discussion.

Combover Dave doesn’t have any clear vision. We should be better was the beginning and end of his battle plan.

He’s ended up with Scott and Vozzo (neither his first choice) and essentially said ā€œhere, you guys do itā€ā€¦ the equivalent of a McGrath hospital handpass into traffic.

I disagree.

They’ve said the right things publicly.

They just don’t follow through with it - eg Scott has said numerous times they are playing the long game looking for ā€œsustainableā€ success:

No shortcuts
No sugar hits
No playing injured or underdone players
Building a group to be competitive for a long time

Nothing in selection follows that.

I’d rather Vozzo handle it than Dave!
