Covered by some more mainstream muso’s post James Taylor original; Springsteen and Vedder, for example…

Remember hearing this in my 20’s and just being completely flooded by how sad the vast majority of our realities is…

Wait a minute…

" I tried carrying the weight of the world
But I only have two hands
Hope I get the chance to travel the world
But I don’t have any plans
Wish that I could stay forever this young
Not afraid to close my eyes
Life’s a game made for everyone
And love is a prize

So wake me up when it’s all over
When I’m wiser and I’m older
All this time I was finding myself, and I
Didn’t know I was lost"

This one always gets me knowing the poor bloke topped himself a little while after.

A couple of beautiful falsettos in this track.
Some of my favourite lines of Mayer’s like… “turn 68, you’ll renegotiate”.

Essentially about facing the prospect of your parents eventual, inevitable passing, and how that relates to your own mortality.
There may be some subliminal references to his music career at that point in time which was on a meteoric rise, not that its obvious in the lyrics.

Not sure why but Sarah Blasko makes this song extra sad.
