Spec/changes for Freo game - Sat 24th June 7.25pm @ Optus (in Perth)

Don’t think DP3 will be ready to return for Freo. Be good to get him back for the Port game though as we’ll need him.

Shiel is a mystery … @Speedy_Gonzales might be right about him not being included on the injury list update last week. He could be longer term but who knows. Club keeping that situation v quiet at the mo’.

Flip deserves another run at it alongside Draper. Both rested up over the bye. Bryan will get another crack later on so best he keeps dominating in the 2s building confidence.

But I’d like to see Mr. Versatile Balders in as sub and Mass drop out for a few full games in the 2s (unless Merrett cops a ban). Tex as first emergency. Otherwise no change from Sunday unless the MRO do another one on Zach.

In Baldwin (sub)
Out D’Ambrosio

Shiel can go play VFL.

A week in football is a long time. This time last week we were saying the Roos midfield had gone past us and we needed Parish back etc. If Parish is fit then he plays pure and simple. Shiel is more difficult because they were already using him less in centre bounces. Whilst Hobbs and Caldwell have done an exceptional job we do need more rotations so I think they will come in when fit, but only when fit.

Now that Merrett is all clear to play, how do we fit Parish, Shiel and Setterfield back into the team?

Given Scott doesn’t really like making too many unforced changes, you’d think we wouldn’t bring all three back.

Possibly we could only bring one back in the team. Who knows.

it’s a good team.

Hind and Mass are probably the first to go.
Menzie playing well and getting on the scoreboard might force one of Guelfi or Snelling to allow a mid to play half forward.
Doubtful because of Draper carrying something but ideally you’d only want one of Weid or Phillips.

Going to be interesting what Brad sees as the best 22 over the next few weeks. Fringe players are doing exactly what we’re needing from them.

Friday night was the public function.
Saturday night was a private one with other support staff (volunteers) there.
There was another one with players and partners at the game last night.
There’s more through the week.

Unfortunately, a lot of those players have moved on to bigger and better things. Olarenshaw is in Bali. Hird is overseas. I think one of them is in charge of the WA bus network (although I may be mistaken). Longy has other things he’s directing his time to. Tim Watson made it to two of the functions. But he has his hand in SEN, 7 news presenter and footy game day host / special comments.
The guys involved in that premiership are in their mid forties to late fifties. They all have lives after footy.

Thanks Blunmers, appreciate Kate the clarification. Good to understand there were more functions others were at during the week but still a strange look imo. Anyway, bigger fish to fry- hopefully a great back half to the season we can all cheer for.

Injury list as of June 7th (5 days ago):

Could we potentially only have 4 players left on this list in 8-9 days time?

Fremantle game is 12 days away.

I don’t know the details, but from what I can gather, the club have slowly changed the way premiership functions occur.
They realise the players are all over the country so they do have private stuff happening at interstate games for ex-players to catch up.
The 1980s ones are a good example because of Duckworth’s health so they do something when they go to Perth during the year.

There was one around a month or two ago with Hird, Wanganeen and Sheeds although for memory that was tied to a coterie group function.

The main staple at all these events is Fletch. He’s still at the club, gives a lot of his time back to the club and is pretty social so he helps out with these events.
I think JJ was at the club last week (he’s now a real estate agent) so it’s not like the club closes its doors to ex-players. It’s just we don’t realise these guys have families of their own and lives to live.

One guy I haven’t noticed back at the club is Dean Wallis. Not sure what he’s up to, but we need to move on from his previous failures and just celebrate the moments we had with him.

So we’ll likely have Walla, Reid, Cox, Davey and Tsatas, Voss, Hunter all getting minutes in the VFL - pushing their case for selection.

Plus whoever the unlikely players that make way for Parish, Shiel, Setterfield.

Unless of course Setterfield isn’t guaranteed the best 22 spot??

Vfl bye this week I think.

I’m not expecting parish to get up. I’d bring in Kelly for hind and happily drop weid for another mid if they were available but don’t think they’ll drop him for hunter or voss yet. If there wasn’t a vfl bye this week it might be different.

Very frustrating that Tex didn’t play at all this weekend and will not next weekend either after his best game ever

I’d be making wholesale changes to the squad.

Tracking awfully at the minute.

Think our midfield dynamic is better without Setterfield. I don’t want him taking Hobbs or Caldwell’s spot in the team. I’m sure Scott and the selectors know that.

Trolling obviously

He was in a lot of the highlights providing leads and tapping down to others

Clear as mud.

Nah he got off.

Honestly, the only change is Parish for Phillips and Shiel for Snelling.

That’s it.

You’d think we’ll go with two rucks given the Darcy/Jackson combo they have.

Depending on how Shiel pulls up, it could be as simple as

IN - Parish
OUT - D’Ambrosio

Hind/Snelling shift to the sub role.
