If the last time Sri Lanka played a T20 tour in Australia is anything to go by, missing the first 3 games probably saves him 55 overs of fielding and getting to face 31 balls (assuming he bats 4/5).
A bit harsh on Taylor. A lot of people thought Simpson had too much power. AB needed him in the mid 80s, the team was a shambles. By the time Taylor got in charge it was a very settled team on the cusp of becoming the worlds best. All Taylor did was take charge and you have to say he did a hell of a job. Simpson was certainly not happy about it though. I saw an interview with him on Fox and he described Taylor as a lucky captain. Pretty poor if you ask me.

Just checking in to see if I’ve got this right. JL is appointed when Australian cricket is at a fairly low ebb and minus two of its better batters. He’s clearly mediocre because the Indians beat us at home twice and we lose a few other matches. Then when we start winning JL’s already been told to pull his head in and back off and the assistant coaches have, to all intents and purposes, taken over while JL counts down the days to the end of his contract. The WCup and Ashes are won by players who could have done so without any coaching. Am I doing it right?
They asked him to pull his head in and take a back seat months ago, after which it seemed a much happier team under McDonald and Di Venuto.
Should have seen the writing on the wall and pulled the pin.
When he got called the brown-nosed gnome on Cricinfo early in his career, my contemporaries and I thought it most appropriate. Intense coaches have a limited life span. Having said that, at the top levels of CA, they’ve been a dog’s breakfast for years.

CA buggered this up so royally that Langer comes out of it looking like the victim and reputation enhanced. Quite an achievement by them. They created a monster and didn’t know what to do with it.

Jhye Richardson came out in support of Langer as well. Interesting that both are from WA.
The players who have sat under him as coach at WA are big supporters of him, not just because he comes from WA. They haven’t felt his actions as a coach in WA have been all that bad.

Interesting they named the squad before any shield games. It’s exactly the same squad as the ashes except for Agar in for Richardson who is out for workload reasons - he hasn’t bowled since Christmas 
I’m hearing he isn’t on the radar at this stage and that they want to see him get through at least half a dozen games of SS unscathed

Jason Gillespie says he doesn’t want to coach Australia’s cricket team, while describing Justin Langer’s messy exit from the job as “heartbreaking”.
Gillespie, who is South Australia’s coach and a former coach of English county sides Sussex and Yorkshire, had been touted as potential replacement for Langer.
“I am not putting myself up for any job,” Gillespie said.
“It’s nice to be thought of in that way but it’s certainly something I am not even thinking about entertaining.”
Gillespie has reached out to former Test teammate Langer, who quit on Saturday as Australia’s coach.
“Everyone has been pretty disappointed with how it has all played out — pretty heartbreaking to see, to be honest,” Gillespie said.
"But unfortunately, it is what it is.
"Justin has handled himself very well … the decision has been made and whatever decision they make, they make.
"But I think everyone is of the opinion that things probably could have been handled better.
"He is OK.
"He felt he had something to offer Australian cricket. Cricket Australia felt differently.
“So move on, that’s part and parcel I suppose of being in professional sport and being a coach.”
Gillespie praised Langer’s four-year tenure as national coach.
“Justin will go on and do wonderful things that we all know he can,” he said.
“He has done a fine job with Australian cricket the last four years and we all wish him really well because he will succeed in whatever he puts his mind to.”
