Would Ponting be in the mix / gettable?

the same usman whos barely played for years? not sure how much weight his opinion has. pat clearly doesn’t like him though

it just seems like a mess from the outside. im not sure giving the players this much power is a good idea at all. when does that ever end well

we’ve just esentially punted a guy who win the T20 world cup and Ashes. in a results based industry, it seems crazy. time will tell but even if this was the right decision, its laughable how its gone down

The only unhinged person is you.

It wasn’t so much an opinion, it was after someone got out and Langer was a bit harsh and Khawaja didn’t think it was fair criticism and he spoke up and had a word with Langer (he didn’t say he was against Langer, just he was being harsh). That started the ball rolling on all the issues. At least that is what was rumoured at the time.

What responsibilities were rumoured to be taken away from him in the 2year offer?

2 years was more than fair for Custard Hanger.

Speaking on ABC Radio, Ponting suggested Langer had been pushed out of the coaching role after a “small group” of players refused to support him.

“It is a really sad day as far as Australian cricket is concerned and if you look back it has been a really poor six months on the whole in the way that Cricket Australia has handled some of the better people in the Australian cricket — Justin Langer and Tim Paine — and I think it’s been almost embarrassing the way they have handled those two cases,” Ponting said.

“He mustn’t have had the full backing of the board. Me knowing Justin the way that I do, he was very keen to continue in the role, as he should have been after what’s been the best coaching period of his international career having just won the T20 World Cup and then the 4-0 result in the Ashes.

“It seems like a very strange time for a coach to be departing.

“Reading the tea leaves it sounds like a few — and as he says to me a small group in the playing group and a couple of other staff around the team — haven’t entirely loved the way he has gone about it.

“That’s been enough to force a man who has put his life and heart and soul into Australian cricket and done a sensational job at turning around the culture and the way the Australian team has been looked at in the last few years to push him out of the job.”

Straight swap imo.
Langer to England, Silverwood to Australia!

From what I hear some of the players give zero credit to Langer for the T20 WC and heap praise on Finch. Apparently some players weren’t enjoying it and Finch and the leadership decided to go against Langer and went and played some golf almost daily and just got back to playing cricket and having fun. Langer was pretty much sin binned and sent to the stands to work on his laptop whilst his underlings took training at the players request

don’t reckon he’d want to do it

feels like the job is about 90% managing egos (30% players, 60% cricket aus) and 10% cricket

That miniseries short of showed Lyon wasn’t his biggest fan.

But anyway, that’s all gossip.
What’s not gossip is that CA has a very poor reputation as an employer.
Basically turnstiles there.

Well isn’t that classic self-serving garbage from players.

When we lose it’s the coaches fault but when we win it’s the players who did it.

The entitlement of players nowadays is unbelievable.

giving a small group of players the power is a slippery slope. CA couldn’t run a bath, its embarrassing how public this has been. Nothing has changed

It’s well known Langer had issues with the players. Any Aussie cricket fan knows he is one of the most intense people to have ever worn the baggy green. I’m not sure this is on the players. It’s just that his personality doesn’t work to get the best out of the players.

I personally don’t have an issue with the players not being excited about the coach, Warne hated his pretty intensely. Is the coach getting the best out of them, is the direction a positive one and are the plans in place leading to continued growth and building a powerhouse? if there are issues then you quietly try to resolve them and if they are not getting the traction you want then you end the tenure respectfully and move on.

The issue I have in all this was the constant leaking to the media, backstabbing the coach that everyone seemed to take part in and the lack of respect and dignity afforded someone who picked up the side in a horrible situation and helped get it back on track. Then to top it off they name him in the Hall of Fame and shove him out the door in a public and bitter way all in the same breath.

Fair to say Langer’s manager has come out swinging

well…we did just win the ashes and T20 world cup

time will tell i guess if it was a good decision. I suspect its not, but who knows

I doubt Langer will get s gig as an International test coach due to his intensity which is unsuited in the modern world. he is best suited to shorter tournaments.
