The concert and gig thread

I was at the Ups & Downs / Crystal Set gig too… Think Greg’s voice was struggling, hence why he was buried in the mix. He sounded decidedly croaky with his stage banter and they cut a song or two from the setlist.

The Crystal Set were a lot better than I was anticipating. I remember them being ok from the 80’s but their songs didn’t leave much of a mark on me. The Benefit Of The Doubt is still heads and shoulders their standout track.

There’s not too many bands that get me to haul my old arsse into town these days, but Ups & Downs are one of them… been seeing them on and off for 40 years.

Didn’t like the venue much. Unless you’ve got a table (which we didn’t), there’s no great vantage point. They should open the elevated area at the back to standing room…

That is one of the benefits of going to the dinner show. We had the front right

Went and saw Bob Geldof at Hamer Hall on Thursday. It was a mix of stories, videos and live music. He was on stage from 7.30pm to 10.50pm, with a 15 intermission. Brilliant show.

I’ve been pretty excited for this show for a couple months now. It really delivered. Good vibe in the crowd. Played all the bangers.

Carol.
CAROL!!!

Would go tomorrow night if I could find tickets, but I find the corner almost too loud.back to back shows would ruin me.

Saw Yellowcard tonight at Margaret Court Arena. Freakin epic. Motion City Soundtrack opened for them. Curiously quirky energy - entertaining! Plain White T’s (hey there delilah) as well, but gave off superrrr lame Disney band energy.

Yellowcard though, phwoaaah… great show!

Margaret court arena acoustics are ■■■■ though. Wonder if anyone here agrees?

went to see Cyndi Lauper on Wednesday night at Rod Laver Arena. I wasn’t expecting great things, given her age. She did pretty well though, she’s still got a lot of power in the lower range, but when she tried to go for the high notes, there were lots of flat moments, and when she tried to hold some of them for the big moment it was just kind of cringey! She chatted away quite a bit, giving us some insights into her early life and career which was quite interesting, and she also mentioned the ‘Girls Just Want to Have Fundamental Rights’ fund, which supports efforts that advance women’s rights and health. Quite a few costume changes! she also had Tones and I join her for ‘Time After Time’. Was a fun night, lots of people got dressed up, and it was quite a party atmosphere!

Peep Tempel were pretty awesome last night. My friends partner played in the band before them, Last Quokkas. They were incredible too.

Was a great gig.

Last Quokka’s are my new favourite band. A lot of Bad Dreems about them. I wanted to get to the Tote today to see them but my head is pounding.

Which one is he?

The guitarist that was wearing the shorts on the left side of the stage last night. I really should go to The Tote as they are playing in the front bar and it would be cool.

Wayyy to hungover I think and playing games and watching footy sounds nice.

He was a mad guitar player.

I’d like to see them. But they were 60plus dollars. Ouch.

Any new material?

You Am I this Friday at the Forum in Melb. HiFi Way and Hourly Daily back to back. Weather looks nice, a few pre drinks across the road. Good times.

That was one of the great gigs!

Hourly Daily and HiFi Way in that order with a couple of encore songs including Berlin Chair. Tim was in top notch form. The band were :fire:.
Stood second row from the rail, walked in 5mins after doors and got back to my spot during intermission (after a ■■■■ and drink stop). Spoke to Scottie Owen from Living End in the gents.

Coming up

The Seven Ups - every Thursday in April at Shotkickers. They did this last year, one of the best gigs I went to .

The Dead Kennedys- Northcote Theatre September?
Ok, so Jello isn’t in the band, obviously, and DH Peligro died a couple of years back. But I saw them when they last toured and were surprisingly awesome.
