The concert and gig thread

Best advice I’ve had today.

Mrs dingus is of a slightly less agéd generation than I. I agreed to accompany her to the “Culture Festival” last Friday.

Now, as a younger man I used to get behind a bit of rave action, I’m old enough to have caught the tail end of the best period of that scene and the disco biscuits were still quite effective and reliable.

So where was the harm in a little roll down memory lane, I thought?

Answer: at the ■■■■■■■ venue. Worst “musical” experience of my life. Not just the “hardstyle” genre which is certainly hard but is distinctly lacking in style, but the delivery. The execution. Appalling. 45 seconds of badly mixed grabs of rubbish contemporary songs followed by 45 seconds of badly produced bass followed by a treble storm of broken glass effects and ■■■■■■, monotone lasers followed by some nonce with a mic yelling “can I get a ‘■■■■ yeaaaaaah’”?

Rinse and repeat. No momentum, no journey with the music, just utter crap for 7 hours.

It would have really annoyed me if I wasn’t off my ■■■■.

Reminds of Eric Gales at Blues on Broadbeach last month. Bloke off his nut on something or other rocks up, stands in front of me and proceeds to yell to his mates for 15 minutes on what a legend Gales is etc while not looking at the stage. If that weren’t enough, he then pulls out a harmonica and starts trying to play it, which he couldn’t actually do to save himself. I think his mates pulled him up after a couple of minutes, thankfully. I mean, I’m not one to want to spoil anyone’s trip, but sheesh. Fkn Gold Coast bogans!
P.S., Eric Gales was pretty phenomenal

AC/DC 15th November at MCG… But won’t be announced until 23rd June though… They will then announce Ed Sheeran the following week for February or March 2026.

For those familiar with Margaret Court, which tickets should I go for? Typically bigger venues I’d prefer seating (plus I’m getting old and my back gets sore from standing too long lol). Don’t normally mind nosebleed sections either as it gets me away from other people :joy:

11 or 9

It’s pretty small and you’ll still have a decent line of sight.

But seriously, I found the floor to be pretty good for the one show I seen there. Bad Religion / Social D.

Anyone getting some Acca Dacca tix tom?

Still deciding… getting old, so I need a seat. I’ll get on line and see what the set up is. Then decide.

I’ve got some mates who are keen. I’d love to go. Also have another commitment that day / night. So I’m not sure I’ll be able to go. See what transpires.

I gave it half a thought, then this sealed a big NO (plus the prices):

I was lucky enough to see the Back in Black show at the music bowl (first ever gig), so happy to leave it there.

They were great the last time I saw them play.

Mind you, that was fifty years ago.

Saw them in the late 90s at Rod Laver. Don’t remember heaps of the show but I assume it was a good show. That was nearly 30 years ago though.

It’s a little sad to see these old rockers age, just like everyone else.

Turn the lights down low, have a few drinks, even close your eyes. If that guitar still sounds great, then just enjoy it.

My main issue with them (and any big act) is that the entire show is 100% scripted and the same routine every night. I guess it has to be to synch up with all the props and stuff. But sometimes you want to see some ■■■■ that’s never been done before.

I don’t know how you can go see AC/DC without Malcolm Young.(RIP)

Black Ice they were still great thought.

No disrespect, but any concert that requires big screens to see the band isnt worth going to.

Even more so if it’s a teleprompter to combat the failing eyesight and dementia of the band

Depends where you are.

I’m got pretty lucky at acca Dacca. A Ga ticket and just managed to walk to the runway stage.

Had Angus and Brian do their thing about 10 metres away from me. Was great.

Black Ice had Rosie crash through the stage on top of a gigantic train from memory. It was very cool.

Stadium rock has a place - when your a really popular band you gotta find a way to play to the fans. But your expectations are a lot different from say a pub rock gig!
